People keep confusing unwed mothers with fatherless children. Children of divorced parents have an unwed mother, but that does not mean that the children are fatherless. Children who parents are married can have a father that is an abusive drunk who squanders money and doesn't take care of his kids. Those children are in a wedded house, but they are fatherless.

Right. I'm not trying to negate the fatherly role at all. I didn't want it to seem like I was speaking for you but I have seen so-called "good suburban" kids from 2 parent homes go down a negative path. Usually between middle school - high school. The father was in the household and lived with them daily. I think it's a combination of peer pressure, father (or mother) is there physically but emotionally absent. Witnessed a traumatizing event from the Father (or mother) that would have an affect on their mental. But I think to solely rest the problem on "one parent mother" households is a problem when I've known people first hand who came from traditional homes who ended up in a bad way. There's so many other factors affecting the community.

Although you're right, it's a point many people here disagree with which is why fatherless is an insult to begin with. It's not an insult meant to shame the absent fathers but rather the present mothers a la, "these nikkas so emotional because there's no father in the household".

Maybe you missed the point of my post but it was not to suggest Black men aren't in their children's lives it was speaking to the reason the insult is used.

From what I seen most single mothers get extensive help from extended families members on both the mothers and the fathers sides of the children families. I have also seen fathers playing a larger role in kids lives than people think, but no one ever seems to point out that mothers and fathers don't always get along so it is not always conducive to have a child exposed to constant fighting. So in those cases it is probably best that the father is not in the home otherwise the kid might be seeing abusive behavior.
