The internet and mass media has brought us closer to popular figures than alot of people in our personal lives. You can know intimate details of an e-celeb you’ve never met in real life and have no idea who your neighbors are.
I wish the fukk a neighbor would speak to me........fukk them......on all sides.......

It's not like it's every celebrity. But artists do have an impact on people's lives. Or you grow with them thru their careers.

You telling me you didn't give a damn at all when Michael jackson died? Not sure your age. Lol.

But I feel you. It only irritates me when it's someone kinda meh... Like, breh is you really sad about this.
You did not know Michael Jackson and he didn't know you

Depends on who it is, but it is exchange of time which creates value emotionally. If you spent your whole childhood watching the Cosby Show on the couch with your family for years, you essentially grew up with those characters. If you lost a loved one and their favorite character was Theo, when you hear Theo passed you’re going to think of that loved one.

Everyone grew up different tho so :yeshrug:

They often play a role in some important part of your life, even if it was just a source of entertainment. Memories are often centered around them. If you aren't old enough I cant even begin to expl ain to you how important The Cosby Show was growing up. Not only is it the most important tv show in black culture but it's still the best show ever on tv. Malcolm Jamal Warner was a big part of that show.

And Michael Jackson? Mannn...for a good while it seemed like that dude ran the world :wow:

Probably for the same reason when we hear about any body dying tragically…

in the U.S. alone 10k people die everyday.. 10,000 daily.. ... no one bats an eye

an actor or rock star dies

A lot of people have low standards for what they consider knowing someone and thus come to know celebrities more than they know those that they “know”

Well some of these celebs who pass away can conjure up our own fond memories that happen to involve them. I actually remember being a kid and watching Cosby Show every Thursday. Just speaking on Malcolm in particular, it’s sad because he was a genuinely good dude and definitely loved black people.

It’s a dark reminder that everyone is gonna go at any time from any circumstance it doesn’t matter if they’re 50 100 or 5

We do see death happening all around us but some are less exposed to it than others

Yes one famous person isn’t more important than the hundreds/thousands of innocent people who are dying in wars everyday

but you still mourn them because they brought laughter/joy to your life and made you think

This world is a terrible place but we can still remember the good people

That's what made MJW death so impactful :sadcam:
