I love true crime and I’m definitely not a woman. The appeal of true crime (at least for me as a sociologist) is that these are normatively anecdotes about people wholly outside the realm of what we expect of people in a functional society —with regard to conformity. Even people who are deviant typically fit into society in some marginalized, sub-culture, or counter-culture capacity (e.g., drug addicts). However, there’s no place in society for a Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy. They can’t “fit in.” The question then begs — what makes these people so aberrant? Is it nurture or nature? All in all, it’s a fascinating social phenomena and women are not genetically predisposed to liking it more so than men or some shyt.
