Why do you hate Swizz Beatz?

Swizz has made lots of great beats. He's not Timbo/RZA/Premo tier by a long shot, but he'll eat Kanye's food. This much I know.

Dude has a better production discography than a lot of the overrated cats y'all stan.

People prolly feel he overachieved like a mug.

Even as a producer people generally felt Dame Greases production on those X albums way more than Swizz. On It's Dark.. he only did 1 song btw which was Ruff Ryders Anthem. Classic song & it's still rocking but the actual beat is simple as hell tbh.

Its prolly another reason why X dropped 2 albums within the same year. Cuz Flesh Of My Flesh..was mostly produced by Swizz. Like a lead-up to the Ruff Ryders album that came out about 5-6 months after that.

But i'd say he overachieved and is a extremely simple producer who definitely got very few gems here & there, but overall? Nah.

I remember he actually caught heat for the Drag-On & Juvie beat he did, Down Bottom. He basically took the horns & all it was said playing in the back or some shyt. Basically, almost what Puff was famous for doing. Just basic loops so they really didnt do much.

because his beats are wack and formulaic. i have never liked his beats sinceabout Flesh Of My Flesh. he only had one or 2 on It's Dark and they were dope (Ruff Ryders Anthem) but as he went on they just got worse & worse. obviously he has some bangers but IMO most of his stuff is just wack

When exactly did this start? I came to this site thinking Swizz ranks high among all time producers and still feel that way. He can be annoying with his ad libs but I think he is an all time great. Everytime a Swizz track is mentioned on the internet it gets these reactions

2000s he made bangers
2010s he's been meh

Give some examples and when did you begin to hate him and his beats. I don't get it

i think he put in enough work to be considered a Hall of Famer.

i think people just associate him with the "commercial" era of the late 90s. a lot of people weren't feeling the late 90s/early 2000 hip hop sound and he was one of the bigger names of that era so people hate.

dude has some classics under his belt but looking back, i think it has to do with his drums that feel a little thin or hollow. i don't know what it is exactly but there's something off about late 90s mainstream hip hop drums in general (and again, for some reason, he's associated with that sound). maybe be revisionist history or distorted memory but that's how i feel. But I still respect him as far as the work he put in, the classic he helped create and leaving his imprint on the beat culture. i don't think you can take that away from him.

EDIT: like others said, the popular opinion was that his melodies sounded cheesy too.

but i think it comes from him rapping. His verse on "lord lord lord" is one of the WOAT.
plus ever since he got with alicia neither of them put out anything of quality.
