Why does Embiid get so much hate for playing for team USA?

Who’s the xenophobe behind this Kicks account? He could easily call out Carmelo Anthony and Tim Duncan for not wanting to play for Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands during their basketball careers. This is a ridiculous take. Jose Alvarado is from NYC, if he was good enough to get the call to play for Team USA he’d play too

One day we'll discuss how so many Africans athletes have ZERO pride in their native countries. You rarely see this level of shamelessness with Asians, Europeans and South Americans.

Lionel Messi wasn't ever going to play for Spain instead of Argentina and Luka Doncic chose Slovenia over Spain.

Imagine if a National hero like Didier Drogba chose to play for France instead of Ivory Coast.

It's because representing a country at the Olympics is a lot more complicated than just wearing a jersey and waving a flag. A lot of these federations are very corrupt and like to jerk players around. Plus the coaching and trainers can be subpar, leading to needless injuries that can bleed over into NBA season.

I’d be more pissed if I was a Sixers fan :gucci:

Those knees don’t need extra mileage on them the older he gets :sadcam:

I'd rather he get the Olympic experience and he get his moment in the sun with Team USA. The injury worry will always be there regardless of what he does this summer.

True, but some athletes still choose to represent their heritage out of pride, even if they are good enough.

3 examples:

*Eileen Gu is a skier who won gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics. She was born and raised in the US with a (White) American father and Chinese mother. She chose to represent China instead of the USA.

*Armand Duplantis, a pole vaulter who won gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is a born and raised American, but his mom is Swedish, and he chose to represent Sweden because of her.

*Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, a 100-meter hurdler who won gold in 2020. She was born and raised in the mainland US. Her father is a Black American and her mom is Puerto Rican. She chose to represent PR at the Olympics.

All three could win gold for Team USA but they chose to represent their heritage.

It's not always because of heritage, though. Naomi Osaka represents Japan at the pro level because USA Tennis largely ignored her at age 15-16 when she was looking for a federation to sponsor her and her sister. Japan pulled up and gave her what she needed

People need to find something to be angry about.

This happens in Soccer all the time. You have guys on the USMNT with British accents.

It's also super dumb in soccer football

NAH ITS BECAUSE HE PRETENDED
HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR FRANCE
AND USED THAT AS LEVERAGE
TO GET AN EXPEDITED CITIZENSHIP...

THEN TURNED AROUND AND
PLAYED FOR AMERICA AFTER
HE GOT HIS FRANCE CITIZENSHIP.

Most people are not aware of this. This would only speak to people in France mad about him playing for USA. But most people that have issue with him playing here don’t know or care about the France thing.

Would you still feel that way if he gets injured again this Summer?

I never said that it was always about heritage. Also, I did say "some", not most or even all.

Naomi Osaka's case is also a little more complicated. Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship, and by the age of 22, dual citizens have to choose which citizenship they want, or else their Japanese citizenship is revoked. Osaka chose to renounce her US citizenship.

breh nobody gives a shyt about the French team/France/Croissants/Cameroon/etc lol

Embiid is an easy target cause he's an injury prone player who foul baits, underperforms in the playoffs, cried for his MVP, etc

Thats it. nikkas dont like Jo

He got hurt last season and he wasnt even playing 4th quarters. Dominating in 3 like Curry....he still ended up hurt.

Id rather him go to the olympics and hopefully experience what it's like to win. Maybe that shyt will rub off...either way he's going to get hurt.
