blasphemy. what does this mean exactly
(1) NYC does not dictate what's hot any more...You can be a successful rapper without that NYC stamp of approval...

(2) You don't see droves of NYC Rappers breaking through any more...The few NYC rappers we talk about, are NOT even heavy on the NYC streets...

(3) NYC has NO sound that is commercially viable...If you don't have the beats, then you are not going to have the rappers...

Hip Hop is now heavily influenced and dictated by the South...

NYC rappers are still breaking through, French & Rocky are heavy out here, even Ferg gets mad love

Who in the south is dictating hip hop?

and let me guess, since we don't have a sound that means the west doesnt have one either right? everything not on a trap beat = no sound :upsetfavre:

I was anticipating the French Montana and Asap Rock reply, and I initially typed a whole paragraph explaining why these dudes are not your saviours...

These 2 rappers you named are the gold standard of how the South is dictating hip hop...

NYC doesn't have a sound, and if you don't have sound then you irrelevant...The only thing keeping NYC even slightly relevant is the History of Hip Hop...NYC is the biggest monument to hip hop, like Jerusalem is to Abrahamic religions...In that context, NYC will always be historically relevant to hip hop...

Look at how many successful sounds have come out of the South? As soon as a commercially successful beatmaker falls off, there is one who immediately takes his place...New York used to have similar successions, but those days are long gone...

And yes, Trap/Drill beats are currently the sound of rap music...

explain why NY must have a saviour to be hot. Is Jay-Z not relevant? French Montana & Rocky are both relevant regardless of whatever 'sound' bullshyt u tryna throw at me. Regionalism died once the internet was born. No such thing as a regional sound anymore. Yes I can give the south a W for their beats, but seriously what else is there for them to be proud of? A slew of one hit wonders??

Then be happy with your opinion...

I remember when NYC had a ATCQ, Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Bad Boy Camp, Boot Camp, and Premo, Pete Rock, The Beatnuts, Easy Moe B and whole bunch of other rappers and beatmakers making noise...

I am talking from that perspective, if you honestly believe that NYC is still that fertile when it comes to hip hop production, then be happy in your delusional blissful state of ignorance...

Even NYC rappers themselves realize that the environment has changed, and NYC hip hop is just not as GLORIOUS as it used to be...

Why did Nas make Hip Hop is dead? Because that NYC feeling died, because hip hop was still commercially viable when Nas made that album, so why would he make that statement?
