eh, Sega Channel isn't really comparable to what these services offer now...other than maybe offering games to rent for a fee ala what Nintendo plans to do w/ the Switch.

But other than that, Sega Channel was pretty ahead of its time.
Yeah my dad got it for me when when I first got my Genesis. If I remember correctly, I didn't own any of the games but I had a list of new games I could play anytime every month.

This is the reason. Remember when Microsoft revelaled the Xbox One with the DRM shyt and had huge backlash and were forced to remove it? If the same thing happened with paid online, or there was huge backlash, it probably wouldn't be a thing. Ehh, never mind, it would end up going that direction anyway.
