Like I said I read his book I don't think those are all ducktales. Jay was a street dude too, just not the kingpin he's claimed to be throughout his career.

Jay Z is more popular than Nas everywhere and always has been with the exception of when they were beefing (excluding the early 90s). There are specific types of heads everywhere that will prefer Nas. But if Jay Z and Nas hold a concert on the same day anywhere on earth, Jay Z will have a stronger showing 98% of the time. It doesn't mean he's better, it's just facts. Just like Eminem will outdraw everyone else. Nas stans try to explain it away by claiming it's because Jay Z "dumbed down" but Jay could sit there and kick nothing but album cuts and it would be the same. He's just a more popular rapper and can appeal to any audience. A true head would be fans of both though.

Nas was more popular than Jay from 94-98, once Jay flipped that Annie sample it was over. From 99-02, they were multi-Platinum stars though.

Jay has more fans everywhere. He's been a much bigger artist then nas since around 1998.
As a person who prefers Nas over Jay, I agree that Jay has a larger fanbase. Its just the truth. Compared to Nas he's more mainstream. As far as who is better I pick Nas.

Jay is a rapper nikka, in '88 he was on his godbody shyt working with Jaz-O. Jay was a street nikka but to think he was moving major work is stupid AF. He ducked out on an attempted murder case and his man Calvin Klein took the fall this was in '89 (allegedly Jay's wake up call), Jay been shot at and all that. Jay was a drug dealer and saved his money to the point where he could start his label. Early 90s Jay was already trying to come up you not battling LL Cool J and opening for Daddy Kane, and putting out tracks rapping like Das EFX and being a kingpin on the side.
Nas was a middle school dropout, living in the largest housing project in NYC. His brother Jungle was known for being a wild lil nikka, Nas had a crew legit and has name dropped them plenty of times in his music. Nas was a low level street dealer, and not a very good one which is why he quit. I seen Nas apartment in QB with a tour from Jungle, it's a bullet hole in the wall allegedly Nas was playing with a gun in the room.
Don't think Nas was this kid looking out his window, this is crack blitz projects in the late 80's. Have you heard the DJ Envy story, the barber shop story, him having the edge over NORE in a fight. Crazy how y'all try to paint Nas as some soft ass dude.

and alotta nas music (esp his older ish) is such a regional NY grimey sound.
LA LA is all about that bounce club type music. jayz makes that pop sound.

no one is gunna "win" technically no matter what angles you use
to be fair jay music is far more diversified in comparison
he will have pop/club songs
ironically a lot of which i dont think was the goal set out
like no way was DOA made as a club record yet it got crazy burn in the clubs oddly enough lol
nas for whatever reason is kinda trapped in a box musically and when he does venture out of it he gets sooooo much flack over it
i think its because when he does make a more pop/club song it tends to be horrible majority of the time lol
but he has made i feel some great more mainstream songs "cherry wine" "cant forget about you" are amazing records
