I would rather listen to party all the time from eddie murphy on repeat all day than listen to all the filth and garbage being played on the radio today, I'm serious.

And eddie murphy was being laughed at when it came out in the mid 80s but i love bad songs too at least they had meaning.

Yeah, it's pretty much a general consensus that generally speaking, you won't find quality on the radio. It's out there, though.

it's not even like it's hard. just find a song you like and the internet suggests shyt for you. between youtube, soundcloud, and pandora...you really can't run out of shyt. and if you do, pick up a magazine and just give something random a few honest spins.

I will say I do pay attention to Rolling Stone's annual AOTY list, and go through there to see what may have dropped that would normally be off my radar. Thanks to Last.fm and Pandora, the recommended artists portion of their listening software points you in some dope directions.

cant really say...it cycles when major events take place. for example Slavery, Freeing of the slaves(antebellum), World war I and II, Vietnam, Civil Rights, etc.

:leon: Damn, that would be weird if it took some sort of massive cultural event to change music.

Looking at rap, I just felt that technology has pushed away the idea of getting together and building off of one another's ideas, where you can record a beat in Cali, email it to TX for a verse, email that to NY, and then back to Cali for editing and voila. The whole notion of cyphers is gone now.

During the middle ages music was controlled by the church and secular music( bytches, money, ho's,war) was frowned upon:huhldup:
Even instrumental music that made you happy or sad was not to be listened to by children or women....until the Romantic period.
Drake is clearly a romantic era artist. He sings/raps about very emotional topics. He also displays elements of the baroque era by the fact that he plays multiple instruments (rapping/singing)

breh, accept it. i'm not going to make you open your mind to new music especially if you'd rather listen to ice ice baby than anything that is out today. what response did you expect?

Yes I will rather listen to that. At least it was real unlike today where people just take advantage and think we are all stupid. cmon man, I grew up in a golden age, where the bad songs had to be good in some way.

The bad songs today are not even trying to be good, they are all mediocre/garbage.

alright, breh. i understand that but you cannot logically be mad about someone calling you old when you only like old stuff. and while you may have grown up in a golden age, no matter how good the music is...growing up is like a golden age for everyone.

I'm very open minded but the personality nowadays trumps the music so it's pointless trying to be fair or reasonable with this new generation. The hype doesn't back the music anymore.

Back in the day, you weren't hyped except the shyt was good. Now the good shyt doesn't even get hyped, it gets relegated and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Drake, lil wayne and a lot of these clowns are going to be looked as stupid and corny when their careers are over.

There's no more originality and musicianship...coupled with the record labels ability to package crap on a disc or download and still be able to make money because they have an understanding that the consumers will continue to buy.

right on, dude. but i'ma be bumpin the new shyt. it's fukking music. just listen to the shyt. when i get bored with it i pick up an instrument or start up a program and make my own shyt. no matter how it's produced or marketed, and regardless of who likes it, music is good today.

it's good everyday. fukk you if you don't wanna dance. the whole gotdamn world was better 20-30 years ago but i can't sit around like 'the condition of the earth sucks and i want nothing to do with it'.

its just all so... :trash:

when did the soul leave music?

I know there's going to be folks that say 'there was crap in every era' and thats true, but with the advent of home studios and such there's a much higher frequency of crap than ever before. the only contemporary artist I dig is the weeknd really. its no wonder I live in the past when it comes to music (and other things too)

what a trash era :scusthov:

Theres your answer >>>>>>
