So what?

Should he denounce his family so he can say he started from the bottom?

Get real.

:yayo:

That's not what I'm suggesting at all. But if we are doing a comparison of talent, one had a harder road than the other. There's no arguing that. One had a smaller room of era. One's talent carried them the entire way.

B-Rad had access his entire life and makes shyttyer music. :bryan: Also anyone who minimizes his dad's connections is crazy. Once you are in Hollywood you are in. Unless you do something stupid you should be able to at least get looks. Robin's had that his entire life.

I don't know why anyone has to get a pass. Even though race is certainly still an issue, especially in the south, not everything is about race. You can enjoy Robin Thickes music, and JT's album. If you want to call either of them "culture" stealers, thats your choice. Most modern music has inspiration from black music. As for JT throwing Janet under the bus, he apologized, and she didn't. It has nothing to do with her being a black woman. At that point in time he was attempting to make the transition of becoming more than that that kid from N'sync. Janet had a great career at that point. Most people are going to protect themselves before someone else, thats just how it is especially in the entertainment business. He could have had her back more, but lets not pretend its a race issue, she just happened to be black, and he happened to be white.

It's fine if you feel that he should have said more. I'm saying this wasn't a race issue, JT didn't do this because Janet was black. He did this as a PR move. Hell I'm willing to bet if it meant saving your ass or image that you worked hard to create in your everyday job, you would throw someone under the bus. If not, thats great but lets not pretend most people don't like out for number 1, themselves. More importantly lets not pretend that on JT's side of things that it was a race issue.

that being said you right most people would do the same thing. i could seee jay z doing what jt did easily...correction i have seen jay-z do the same thing......but lets not act like it aint what it is....jt very carefully crafts his image when it comes to black people........lets not act like he is not racist ....... did you not see his wedding

When Robin drops an album that no one is checking for, no one accuses him of being a culture thief. Even when he shows up on black shows like Real Husbands as the "hip white guy who gets it" no one says anything. Even though he is an industry kid and put on basically because of his parents. He didn't put in work like JT, so why does he get a pass and not JT?

I was wonderin the same damn thing :russ:

seems like these "CULTURAL PASSES" are giving out from a relative perspective..........

but real talk...............

black people THESE DAYS should be the last ones talking about DEFENDING a culture...............

"you got so-called ARTISTS spending MONEY LOOSELY
you ask about thier culture THEY TALK BOUT GUCCI!!!!!!!!!"- krs one

you answered it yourself, it's the same reason black people embraced teena marie, if she'd of had celine dion's success she'd be hated

That's entirely not true because if anyone could have done it, they would have it. Your entire post is subjective. Factually speaking there isn't one thing Robin does that JT doesn't do. JT plays the piano and guitar fakket.

Bu.. bu.. but Robin Thicke is so real and authentic. He doesn't need to sell out. That performance was wild homo and an embarrassment

Maybe she did apologize, I thought she never did. If she did how long was it? I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion regardless. Betraying his idol? fukk that. The fact that he was more concerned about his own career is something most people would do. Its not like he thought "well she's black, so I'll just throw her under the bus". His team and him thought about how they could protect themselves, which is what almost any person in or outside of the music business would do. You can make it a race issue all you want, but I disagree.

He has white privilege. He could have defended her and still have had his career in tact. But his first reaction was to throw her under the bus. That says a lot about a person. It is racial, because again, he promoted himself as being "down" when he went solo. He stopped talking like that after 2004.

I dont get this post at all...YOu're telling me Timberlake didnt have that same access ? He was on the mickey mouse club and then was picked to form a marketed boy band..what respect does that deserve ?

Robin Thicke grew up doing and making music and put out music that sold zero and he still doesnt sell sh1t...His father may have got him piano lessons but he certainly put in the work to play instruments and sing the way he does....JT was just thrown into a made for TV pos group...If anything you have the analogy backwards,I respect how RT got to where he is far more than JT...

:dead: NSYNC wasn't a made for TV group.

Robin Thicke learned to play music and sing, having access doesnt allow to sing the way he does or play piano it actually requires talent you fool...

Timberlake was picked by a record producer to be in a gimmicky boy group that was force fed choreographed BS that ANYONE could have done...His sh1t was completely manufactured from day fukkn one...

What record producer? Chris Kirkpatrick started NSYNC. They were an acapella group first and foremost. They only added choreography to their act once they started getting recording uptempo songs.

I dont really care for neither of them to be honest. Give me some Anthony Hamilton or Raphael Saadiq. That real gritty cooked up raw soul.

These JT and Robin's sh1t sounds very manufactured to me at times. But I ain't saying they garbage though.

What is this "promotion of being down"..Every time I hear this it's purely speculation. Is there a "down" checklist for white people?

Does a white guy need a felony charge to be down?

Does he need a black g/f?

Does he need to use slang?

Does a white girl need to date a black guy? Does she need to be open to interracial dating?

Pretty much the black people who say this are the ones who conjured up this image of said white person in their heads. Bill Clinton was "down" until Obama came along to face off with his wife. Now he's "racist". :aicmon: The irony of throwing out tag-lines like "white privilege" is that you set the bar so low for white males(females) too that when you end up praising white people who do inclusion from afar act. *cough Bill Maher*, *cough Tim Wise*.. Yeh those two are soooo down :stopitslime:

That's not Justin's problem. That's black people's problem.

At the end of the day....Who gives a shyt??

There is no such thing as a "pass"...it just so happens that black folks like their music.
Yes, JT is marketed towards black people...but thats probably not even his decision...there is a whole squad of people crafting these artist images...his squad just did it right.

Yes, because white people never have their careers fail them. :rudy:
You can call it white privilege all you want, but there is absolutely no evidence to support your weak ass claims. The reason why Janet had more of a back lash than anything, was because her tit was the one that everyone saw. If the tables would have been turned and it was his dikk that people saw it would have been much more difficult form him to avoid most of the controversy. Promoting himself as being down? You mean JT acted like a wigger when at one point in his life, and grew the fukk up. You can enjoy a culture and not have to mimic it, and imply it to ever aspect of your life. Again, you can say its racial but you have no evidence to support your argument, but if it makes you feel better at night to make everything in the world as racist propaganda from the white devil, be my guest.
