There is evidence to the contrary.
From SOHH to The Coli NY nikkas have always tried to place everyone else second . That’s why nikkas are always trying to downplay NY. I don’t think a lot of it is far at all , but when you got NY cats telling stories of FABOLOUS greatness, it’s kind of like 
I listened to every FAB album when he first came out . I would t even think he’s top 100 . My top 5 albums are all New York albums . I love Murda Muzik and nobody else does . S.D.E and Come Home with me are both classics IMO. I still listen to The War Report . We Are The Streets is the most slept on album ever . Definitely top 5 EVER.

There is an inferiority complex on here from non-New York cats but like @West Coast Avenger said there is a table turn that oher regions, particularly the South, can gloat on.

To be fair NY is the only region I remember actually shytting on west coast culture, including gangs, back then.
So to see NY embrace it years later is....odd, to say the least.
