Haven't seen BP2 and neither have I heard anyone talk about Bassett's performance in it until yesterday.

Do black people really expect to win every year?

Don't get me wrong, I love Angela Bassett and she's a great actress but she's in a comic/Marvel movie. She's basically played herself in Black Panther so it's def an easy role for her. So I can see why she didn't win.

However, she did get robbed when she played in the bio-pic, What's Love Got To Do With It

Lowkey this is more about writing, you need to think about the roots of a tree. Writing is the most important part of the film industry, more black male writers are needed. The Woman King was written by a white british woman who twisted the facts of the story so much to fit an agenda that even hollywood liberals were like:whoa:your going too far you can't bend facts like that when this is documented history. In the right hands that kind of story is a best picture contender. When you have more Black Men writing and producing then naturally that has knock on effects in other categories.

In the 70s which some consider the greatest era for hollywood films, there were only handful of writers feeding the whole industry; Robert Towne (Chinatown), Paddy Chayefsky (Network), Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver), John Milius (Apocalypse Now). All you need is a few writers to change everything. That's the issue with Tyler Perry, what he is doing is incredible but the writing is holding him back, if he just gave a chance to some young hungry breh's who can write (I know they are out there) great things could happen.

Beyonce has 32 Grammys, the most awarded in music history. Google is your friend. :beli:

For the Rap and R&B categories, where they like to segregate Black musicians, never Album of the Year. In fact some grammy voter admitted they'll never give it to her just because :mjpls:

In fact in one year they gave it to Beck over her. Beck. Who sold 100 copies of his folk singer album and hasn't been a thing since 1997 and they still said we don't care we're giving it to him anyway over her :mjpls:

How do you make sense of this:

And this:

At the same time?

You're admitting black people have their own award shows, are they of lesser value in the film industry?
Do we want to acknowledge white validation at the expense of dealing with racism is greater than independent black achievement or is it about getting paid in a system of white supremacy?

Black people can still get paid while maintaining a credible, financially lucrative, critically laudable career in a system of white supremacy while having their own independent, prestigious award show to rival the Oscars. We already have our own award shows and people in the film industry who can do what they do.

After the PhD Coli Black History professors break this down day in and day out why does the same conversation continue?

This thread is not about Angela Bassett, that's all.

You have absolutely no idea what your talking about. Replying to you is nothing more than an exercise in debating the retarded.

But here we go..

Adrian Brody has not been doing “straight to DVD movies” since winning an oscar and a quick Google search easily confirms this. But since i’m replying to an idiot…

Just last year the man was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Succession, which is one of the most prestigious and critically acclaimed shows on television. He is also currently starring in the HBO drama series Winning Time. Prior to that he had major roles in Grand Budapest Hotel (nominated for Best Picture at the 2015 Academy Awards) King Kong (which one of the five highest grossing films of the year in America in 2005) and Midnight In Paris (which earned him both Golden Globe and SAG nominations)

He also serves as either producer or executive producer on many of the projects he works on…namely AFTER winning the Oscar

Monique’s Oscar win didn’t ruin her career. Failed business relationships and falling out with studios ruined her career. Its called being blackballed. And it had to do with her attitude. And even with being blackballed Monique has been in movies and television shows during the time she was going through her riffs.

As for Three Six Mafia… Well i’ll
Let them tell it

Juicy J: Everything happened so fast, my mind was racing that night. I got free room service, got into clubs for free, I got upgraded to a better hotel — it was so nice, if you want some food, just push a button; you want sushi at five in the morning, they’ll make it for you. We got free everything: any restaurant, I’d set that Oscar down, “What would you guys like? Everything is on the house.” The power of the Oscar, man.

DJ Paul: I woke up in my hotel room the next morning with my housecoat on and a bottle of champagne in my hand, and the phone ringing because the Hollywood Reporter or somebody was calling for an interview and taking pictures of us. Then we did some interviews and flew back home.

When we landed there was so many people in the airport waiting for us, there was applause, the minute we stepped off the airplane people started going crazy, it was almost like a little parade at the airport for us. It was crazy.

Juicy J: When we got back to Memphis, Dolly Parton actually sent us a letter congratulating us and signed it, saying she was just happy [the award] came back to Tennessee.

Juicy J: It was a dream come true, man. We had never won nothing in our entire lives and then we were international stars overnight. Everything got bigger, we did shows overseas, got a lotta good money and beautiful women. It motivated me even more: If I can win an Oscar, I can do anything in life.

Ad homenims of course:russell:. I expect too much from some of y'all but you also talk like a supervillain so I shouldn't have expected anything:mjlol:

Non of what you said disproves that Adrien Brody has been a Redbox superstar, especially naming 3 projects in a 20 year span

Blackballed or not I'm not the one that invoked the "Oscars get you all these opportunities" argument. You want it to be universally true while denying that it works against many actors

But :dead: at you finding a defense for Three 6 before even attempting to defend the dumpster fire that is Cuba Gooding Jr's career:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

As a testament to the truth of what I’m saying, If Angela Bassett does her BP2 performance in a non marvel movie, she probably wins.

Show me a black character who wins by being subtle and nuanced. Maybe Poitier?

Sidney Poitier?

Denzel Washington is the king of "subtle and naunced" performances and ya'll sit up here accusing him of "playing himself" in every movie.. Ya'll are not impressed by "subtle and naunce" unless someone non black is doing it, stop it....:mjlol:
