Rap is better than R&B? Lol

R&B was never really "mainstream"...we just don't have as many crossover acts as we did in 90s, early 00s

Streaming and radio programming are a big part of the problem
Yes Rap is better than R&B who thinks otherwise? Your grandfather?

R&B has always been mainstream. Female R&B is still mainstream but Male R&B isn’t anymore

look at all the male R&B stars from the 2000s compared to now. Even the early 2010s had stars

Yup. All the bullshyt trends in today's music started under our watch when we were still the target demographic. shyt started getting wack in the mid 2000's we were just in denial
What was bullshyt?
I can admit, we killed that shyt :manny: usually the females would keep thr genre alive but they have thot rap now
I think Female R&B is in good place today. Especially when you look at last decade where Beyoncé and Rihanna were the only ones that matter for a large part

Male R&B on the commercial level is dead

Turn on your local radio and even xm channel 44,46, and it’s the same old Chris brown even the nikka 2018 songs playing on radio and u might get a lucky daye or someone like that who might get played once in a blue moon

Then female broads all sound the same like they sobbing on a pillow crying over a break up
And Chris Brown while a legend and Icon is only relevant because his brand is so much larger than anyone other Male R&B artist out. That’s why he continues to get the features and push

Female R&B today isnt really "mainstream" ...Kelani, Jhene, etc arent getting play on pop/top 40 radio

If you do want to consider SZA r&b. Who else would you consider to be "mainstream"? Summer Walker?

But HER last album "flopped". Ari Lennox and J Sullivan barely are cracking 30k. Who else?

Motown had its time... MJ, Whitney, BoyIIMen, Mariah, Usher, Beyonce were big crossover acts but outside of the blk community most traditional r&b acts werent household names

Y’all nikkas stay making this thread every month
To run up them :flabbynsick: daps because you too scared to embrace the current crop of male R&B artists
I can provide a ton more but what’s the point
This forum is an echo chamber and just as bad as other social media platforms
With y’all funky hot takes:deadrose:

You nikkas stay posting 5 or 6 joints you like and think that's enough to refute all the signifiers of decay to the genre.
Wook at you.:heh:

Everyone you named has mainstream presence they have hit records that have features they’re visible within the culture. You don’t have to crossover to white audiences to be a factor anymore
First week sales aren’t the end of be all. It’s not 2005 anymore

You can’t say the same for male R&B

Their hearts are in the right place, but it feels like the songwriting and production just isn't there like in the past.

I actually enjoy the new takes on traditional R&B by some new artists. I do see where the creative innovation gets stunted if the cultural bandwidth doesn't allow for emotional depth beyond immature takes on accountability and materialism. I think we're a long way from letting a male R&B artist redefine the genre again.

a lot of the lyrical content just can't be compared to rap music content. and that goes for most genres where the subjects are very limited, in the case of r&b it's mostly about the opposite sex, maybe every now and then you'll get an uplifting song or a party song. rap music as we know has various subject matters and most of them presented in a provocative way that by definition provoke discussion..... like even the nerds on here who allegedly hate rap music cant help but speak on it everyday :pachaha: but if you put out a rema thread where he is singing about love again.....silence.
