No you don’t. You have to search to find new music that sounds like what was popular when you were young but that happens with every generation

Could you say Bryson Tiller was on his way to redefining the genre. He actually had records that could play next to rap songs in a playlist and or DJ set and not change the vibeI actually enjoy the new takes on traditional R&B by some new artists. I do see where the creative innovation gets stunted if the cultural bandwidth doesn't allow for emotional depth beyond immature takes on accountability and materialism. I think we're a long way from letting a male R&B artist redefine the genre again.
Yeah R&B is mainly about falling in and out of love.a lot of the lyrical content just can't be compared to rap music content. and that goes for most genres where the subjects are very limited, in the case of r&b it's mostly about the opposite sex, maybe every now and then you'll get an uplifting song or a party song. rap music as we know has various subject matters and most of them presented in a provocative way that by definition provoke discussion..... like even the nerds on here who allegedly hate rap music cant help but speak on it everydaybut if you put out a rema thread where he is singing about love again.....silence.

If you want melodic, trap, bars are whatever you can find an abundance of it easily
I honestly don’t think it’s that deep. I just think people prefer rap music.
I don't want eitherIf you want melodic, trap, bars are whatever you can find an abundance of it easily
If you want rap that sounds like 1994 then you gotta dig deep

also we millennials and gen z are the children of neoliberalism. R&B is dead because millennials grew up under gynocentrism basically so the women are masculinized and don't like lovey dovey shyt. they want scumbag thug-n-b and slut anthems. We big up mediocre artists because we like the idea that we can be mediocre and still potentially become rich and famous. We grew up in an image based culture so we care more about image/swag than talent. it is what it is.

Are you saying there’s just more rap to consume? That’s definitely part of it. Especially the mixtape, Napster eraRap is cheap. Quality R and B/Soul music is very expensive to produce
You nikkas stay posting 5 or 6 joints you like and think that's enough to refute all the signifiers of decay to the genre.
Wook at you.![]()

And Millennials pushed rap to the forefront of music entertainmentHiphop killed R&B.
Hiphop made singers and all non-thug seem weak and beta. Women believed them too.
This is why a lot of singers started thugging.
It’s crazy because i look back at 2000s R&B especially early 2000s as a great time in R&B but anyone older will tell that early 00s is when the decline startedi think about this all the time. as someone with gen x older sibs, i give that generation their props. they amde amazing music in several genres...early millennials were all over th eplace and by the time you get to 88/89+ singers, it's![]()

It parallels perfectly with millennials hitting the age where they can pick what they listen to and when you add the music was free and rappers were dropping mixtapes everyday no other genre could compete
nikka I’m not about to sit here and post every fukking artist that’s putting out worth while musicYou nikkas stay posting 5 or 6 joints you like and think that's enough to refute all the signifiers of decay to the genre.
