If you really think about it Drake doesn't talk about shyt. That's probably why he's where he is. His content is basic shyt that's relatable...

**Relationship drama
**Family struggles
**People switching up when I got bread

The everyday nicca/female can relate when they listen to a Drake joint. But relatability doesn't mean substance. There's not much substance to his music.

Him being a mixed Canadian also plays a part. He doesn't have to embrace political, cultural and societal issues because he's not fully Black and he's not American. So it gives him an easy out.

Due to the fact that nothing in his life is rooted in any sort of a struggle or dilemma, he is incapable of speaking on aything that doesn't pertain to his usual ego-stroking topics of him "having money" or "having haters". He is a shortsighted airhead who has not a clue of Black culture or the issues that Black people, let alone American Black people, deal with. A half white talmud-thumping Canadian actor attempting to add commentary on social matters? That's out of his league and a recipe for disaster. He's only conscious of his money, singing ghostwritten verses, and capitalizing off of his pubescent fan base. His puppeteers - whoops, I mean his managers - know that he will expose himself as being even more of a fraud if he opens his mouth. He's a dull, insipid, lifeless caricature and would get laughed out of Hip Hop if his swollen jaw so much as even tried to attempt to talk about about social problems. He's a fraud.

I feel like he chooses the most generic things to make songs about in an effort to relate to as many ppl possible.

It's definitely intentional and it's a brilliant strategy that has earned him millions of dollars. A stripper can relate to haters at her job, a college student can relate to relationship drama and the average dude can relate to family shyt. He basically can appeal to young people of all ethnicities by keeping shyt as general as possible and not really talking about a damn thing as far as actual substance is concerned.

Who is "we" though? Black folks? Hip hop heads? I don't think black folks consider Drake black and I don't think hip hop heads consider Drake hip hop. Drake is a pop act and is treated as such. There's a segment of Drake fans that consider his music hip hop (which is laughable) and when it's time for awards he'll get put in the rap category because white folks just generalize but Drake is just as pop as Brittany Spears or the Backstreet Boys were.
