SAN ANTONIO SPURS NY DIVISION
No doubt, I would never say that immigrants can't play basketball just that it might have shifted (damaged) the culture of basketball in New York

But this right here is a very interesting point in the article

but NYC has never really been a big Football city..

In nyc, if your not a guard, its pretty much a wrap....:manny:

Lamar Odom/Boris Diaw types is a good example of what ny could produce if they actually worked on their big men instead of ignoring them

Do the local schools even do the sleep away camps anymore during the summer?

Going to Manhattan camp with Fran Fraschilla was always one of the highlights of my summer. Lloyd Daniels was the guest speaker there one year....telling 10 year old kids his life story :merchant:

I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be.

Lance Stephenson, Kemba Walker, Jakim Noah(probably the BEST Nyc player in the L), Tash Gibson......

Metta Artest and Lamar Odom held it down for years.

I mean, unless yall expect another SPECIAL player to emerge like Kareem or maybe even Bernard King then NYC is fine.

Speaking of Tash Gibson, did they ever find the LUNATIC that killed his 6 year old cousin in Brooklyn?

It hurts my heart to think dude got away with such a public atrocity.

Harlem via Brooklyn
Isn't Roy Hibbert from Queens and son of Trinidadian and Jamaican parents? I doubt it has as much to do with migration in terms of basketball as much as it does with size.

My old lady is from the south, Louisiana swamps south. People down there are just bigger than dudes up north. Where I grew up in Brooklyn, 5'7'' is a normal height for a baller whereas down south its usually 6 feet and taller.

I do agree with the weight lifting comment in the article. In my High School, it was either basketball gym for PE or Weight Lifting gym. Most dudes took basketball gym because everyone wanted to shine whereas only dudes interested in football and soccer teams took weight lifting.
