Why doesn't this new generation seem to understand or grasp why Jay-Z was considered a top draw?

:russ: Majority of casual hiphop listeners aren’t hiphop nerds. They’re not about to research and listen to old shyt. Unless the song is trending on social media, sampled by a new artist, or they’re getting paid to react to it. The new gen only knows Jay as Beyonce’s husband. Unless they’re hiphop heads lol.

You just lack understanding and comprehension.

Guys like Killah Priest and Jay Electronica stay quoting books and will never be able to produce a track of that quality.

Your idea of "intellectisism" is what exactly?
This is the standard I compare to

Layers upon layers :wow:

It's intellectual because it's more than being clever. Anybody can rhyme. Anybody can make a double entendre, but it takes another level of skills to create bars like lupe

He's doing all that while talking about something outside of just how much money he has or how cool he is

It's about "What are you really saying?" Moreso than just does it have a double meaning

Imaginary players is an entertaining song but doesn't have any depth to it beyond "Jay z is rich"

If I can't afford a house or medicine for my mama, why would I give a fukk that Jay z knows the difference between a 4.0 or 4.6 :dahell:

Yall dramatic nikkas do this all the time :mjlol:

How about posting these bars and verses that make him a top tier rapper :jbhmm:

5 pages in and the only nikka dropping quotable is me. Do better

You not gonna rope me into a pointless back and forth you little shyt, you know better lol

This ain't about quotables or "intellectual raps" though there is plenty, this is about Jay being one of, if not THE most well rounded rapper of all time. To the point where All this talk about "work on your mid-range" that you hear being doled out to super-lyrical cats and being attributed to Kendrick is same thing that makes Jay a top draw.

He found the middle ground between being THAT lyrically sound and also having mainstream appeal. The shyt wasn't a fluke or just built on a good PR campaign, it was legitimate skill and foresight.

And while "your generation" being uniquely homo factors in, if it's about idiology Drake should also be everything you (or y'all) hate but you nikkas can relate a lot more to getting punked, pee'd on and p*ssy whipped than the shyt Jay talks about.

You do know that Lupe used to stencil his raps around Jay's verses right?

I think NY’s less prominence has made him look worse because it’s known how the radio people worked hard to keep him on top like the fact Nas ain’t get to hang the Jay-Z effigy would not happen today.

A lot of NY rappers bodies of work aged badly and so as a whole it isn’t as impressive it’s like Aaron Judge good but he ain’t like Mantle or Lou Gerig or Jeter. Biggie got killed so he don’t count but he had so little music.

For all music Jay-Z dropped a lot of it doesn’t slap,a lot of it is talking about how much records he sold, and a lot of it is of its time.

I listen to his music but it has its issues. Man needs to drop another album because he’s one of the last ones left of an era

It didn't work because we having this conversation.

Jay's issue was never the production.

He chose to limit himself lyrically and wave hop.

Watch the throne was hands down the lowest point in "real" hip-hop.

The irony is Lupe is the premier example of selling out.

His entire career is based off making terrible cross over pop records.

And he has negative swagger and street credibility.

It makes sense this clown would be riding for one of the biggest clowns in the game.

The nikka who called Obama a terrorist over Gaza is the premier example of selling out and not the one who gentrified his own hood :laff:

This is a fantasy in your head in actuality Jay is the biggest hip hop success story, widely acclaimed, and a lot of his music has appreciated in time.

Obviously young people won’t get it some of them are against anything old in general they’re kids. There’s still kids that are connected and know shyt and immerse themselves in niches and old music that may still appreciate Jay. This generation has a huge 00’s appreciation.
youth don't fukk with him at all

and this was the record that made his name ring out

some gay ass skateboarding homage record for a breh who doesn't even skate.

Hold your head Terry Kennedy; at least you really skated and down for putting in pain. Terry Kennedy >>> LUPE on all metrics. and had more influence on the culture.

Comparing Lupe to Jay-Z is insulting. The real comparison is too Terry.

Lupe is teaching at MIT. TK doing a bid :francis:

Besides, kick push wasn't autobiographical. It was telling a story using skateboarding as symbol of coming of age

But I bet you believe Jay really lost 92 bricks
