Yup exactly. I'm a fairly new govt employee (contract specialist) and got a coworker who is a retired from air force. He gets 3 checks coming in (current civilian job, retirement check from air force and disability). He doing great and got 2 daughters, one young who he still paying child support and it is no issue for him. His grown daughter in school and she getting benefits from him. I wish I would've thought of that.

Enslaved to what?

you just gotta know how to play the game

At the age of 40, my man can retire and get 5k a month... at 40... for NOT WORKING... 5k a month is 60k a year to not work... plus if he wants to work, being 40 and all.... he'll still get those check plus his normal work checkActive Duty Air Force here. Been in 19 years.
Military ain't for everyone, and there is a lot of high school type drama and bullshyt, even among people in their 30s and 40s. What I've always hated the most is the fact that for as long as I've been in, I can still wind up taking orders from a 22 year old lieutenant fresh out of college. That hierarchy needs to go.
I've also hated that for the most part, this club is not for us. Sure, you can serve and all that, but I can't shake the feeling that some people are never going to be convinced that any ideas or innovations that come from the mouths of people who look like me are ever going to be considered good enough. Let a white dude tell it though, and it's the best idea ever.
Other than that, I haven't seen an ounce of combat, and have only fired a weapon like 5 or 6 times for qualification purposes.
But I will say that because of the military, I've been able to:
Travel to and be stationed at Australia, Japan, Germany, Indonesia as well as take on deployments to Kuwait and Qatar, and travel across the US
Get a Bachelor's and Master's free charge
Pass my GI bill on for family to go to college free of charge
And I'll retire from this shyt in the next couple of years when I hit 40, and I'll be collecting a monthly 2K check from this and a monthly 3K VA disability check for the rest of my life while working a post retirement job

my father was in the navy in his early 20's and thought it would give me stucture for my life, we never lived together so it never happened but sometimes i think what if my parents didnt split up how different my paths in life would of wentWhy did he want you to join?
