Why don’t people talk about how expensive it is to play sports besides basketball and football?

I think all of this is by design, to keep us out and line the pockets of the greedy capitalist. I see this each week. My son plays 13u travel baseball. When we pull up to the park, most weekends we can count on one the number black kids playing. shyt is expensive as fukk. I stopped adding up the costs. A new USSA bat atleast $400-$500, quality glove starts at $150, let's not talk about team and tournament fees, back pack starts at $150, sliding gloves and other hitting accessories $$$$$, private hitting or pitching lessons, not required but $$$$$, cleats $75 plus. I could go on and on shyts ridiculous. Then, in my area of the US, most HBCUs dropped baseball as a school supported sport. Currently NC A&T is the only HBCU in our state that offers baseball. As a state, NC has the most HBCU’S in America-11. At one point in the not distant past 10 supported baseball. Not including all female Bennett College.
Don’t forget that they’re only allowed 11.7 scholarships smh.

That’s because it’s the only thing they do. Most great soccer players are put in an academy young and all they do is focus on soccer.

Most US kids play multiple sports and we don’t have youth schools whose primary function is to train a sport. My son plays baseball in the spring, basketball in the fall, and swims between that. Other kids switch between football and baseball.

If other countries seriously had baseball academies like soccer then the US would stop being the leader in that too.
That’s how it is in Japan too. I ask these little Nikkatsu’s what they play and they will say basketball(mostly girls), tennis or soccer or baseball but it’s always one or the other year round. No switching between seasons. If you a baseball player you play baseball and that’s it. If you play tennis it’s 6 days a week 3 hours a day nothing on the side.

They ask me why sports I played and I lost 3-4 of them bytches and they always look like :ohhh:

"Pay to Play"

It's one of reasons why most of our national teams are garbage. Profits over developing talent..
What? Only if you're talking about men's soccer and a few other more niche sports.

The U.S. is literally most dominant country in Summer Olympics history BY FAR and the second most dominant country in Winter Olympics history.

Athletes from around the world come to the U.S. to train because of we have many of the best sports facilities in the world. The U.S. funds women's sports WAY more than any other country on Earth (Title IX).

Basketball is expensive because more cities have more leagues. And because the ummm how do you say affluent families that want their kids to play but stay out off the riff raff charge more, rent higher quality centers to play their games, even the more let's call them urban can afford to charge more for kids to sign up because all they have to say is "well the going rate to join a team around here is $500. We only charge $200 because we're non profit and run by volunteers....."

To keep it 100 atleast in my area white people are willing to pay more just to avoid having, hosting or playing against black players/families.

There's even various soccer leagues that the White kids play in that box out the Latinos....

And of course a lot of these parents have connects and boosters so they get mad support and advertising, as well as scouting/news reporting whereas none of the other teams make it to the local news or newspapers.

I used to play sports with mostly cacs in the suburbs when I was growing up. Went to a vanilla private school for a hot minute too. No brehettes, just PAWGs and spicy cacettes. :ooh:

No riff-raffs allowed on this side of town
:mjpls:

A damn shame about soccer. It’s by far one of the cheapest sport you can get into. Most of the greatest players come from a poor background, they honed their talent on free pitches and in the street before joigning a club.

Soccer is a cheap sport because the academies subsidize it. You know nothing. Stop talking.

Swimming how many kids do you know grow up with a pool.

Weight lifting,? It cost like 40 dollars for one dumbbell

Skateboards cost like $300 for just the deck and require constant repairs.

Cycling a bike costs like $1200. Used $600-$300 + maintenance. And not every city has bike lanes.

You ain’t never played a sport in your life stop frontin

Man there’s 3 year olds in the Spanish hoods will kill these kids I seen it when I used to do summer camp. These coaches are terrible. Kids who do organized sports don’t have game instinct, don’t know how to improvise.
This 100%.

American kids almost NEVER play soccer just for fun.....but you'll usually see Americans randomly hooping at gyms, parks etc. That's why we ball out at hoops but struggle in soccer.

American footballers are athletic and well conditioned...but we struggle to produce world class strikers because those skills come from bullshytting at the park with friends...not from organized matches.

Studies have shown that playing multiple sports actually HELPS.

The goat Wayne Gretzky played multiple sports growing up.

My high school was always average at soccer. My class had more Latinos than previous years and voila...we played for the state championship lmao. Had 2 Brazilians, a few Mexicans and some Nigerians. When it was 90% white boys, squad was getting knocked out in the area round..maybe regional

Lol this guy has no idea what hes talking about.

Right?

Competitive lifting (powerlifting and Oly lifting) def ain't cheap.

Shoes, chalk, straps, wraps, sleeves, singlets, bench/dead suits, and belts all cost, and that's without accounting for extra food, supplements, recovery things like massages and percussion guns, coaching, gym memberships, entry and federation fees, or travel costs.
