We got bases in the area

This country basically has its “allies” at gunpoint and pumps money into them for them to comply

Answer right here. America has long had an interest in other countries' economies. Also, America didn't immediately step in to "big brother" Japan, China and all its allies would've wiped them off the face of the map.

We help rebuilt their economy, modernize their infrastructure, etc. To a point where Japan was the 2nd biggest economy in the world after the USA during the 80s

The majority of Japanese people have/had it much better after Eisenhower let them thangs go

American occupation freed the average Japanese person from centuries of indentured servitude and exploitation, allowing for upward economic mobility unprecedented in recorded Japanese history

They are just “playing the fence” in being mutual with America. What ppl don't understand is that if a war was to jump off in this current modern-day there would be even more dire consequences than it was before.

Not only the two parties involved but the whole world, due to technology and the strength of nuclear weapons today it would possibly, wipe out nearly every human being and animal on this planet and we'd be back to living in the days of B.C. which is why a WWIII is very unlikely due to stakes being higher.
Yup, nuclear technology has rendered war into more of a passive aggressive operation. Nobody wants to REALLY take it there so we just do a bunch of half measures until both sides get sick of it and fall back. That's why you have shyt like Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan that just go on and on and on and then just kinda end with nothing accomplished.
