Imagine if someone gave that type of money to these broken schools in the inner cities.....

Its like they automatically give up or don't do it because they assume because they were in the same environment when they were younger, they "KNOW FIRSTHAND" that it would not work :beli:

@Slang Dussain Ali don't forget about Mary J Blige last year or whenever it was getting all those young Black Women dreams up with her promise of giving them scholarships and then trolling them by stiffing them soon after

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/bronx/mary_forget_43PxT1wI45OnMnyiFEEpwL

This is exactly why our people get a bad reputation because of nonsense like this. I guess Mary was too busy c00ning in KFC commercials to make a commitment to a promise she made to struggling young people.
damn mary

but youre talking to me.

the guy whose been one of the main posters in this thread for the last 5 pages and stated numerous times that I wasn't even arguing about HBCUs.

that's the point jim.

It's 35 million, for an academy at USC... not a "here white people, take my money and do whatever with it :troll:" donation.

No shyt, donating 35 million to ANY school can work wonders, but what you can't even begin to explain is what inherent qualities do the elite HBCU's ( Hampton,Morehouse,Spelman,Howard etc.) have that could support this academy and have it operate in the capacity that it can in LA, at USC.

your argument never passes the " Dre is black and gave a lot of money to a school with a small black enrollment, and i dont like it one bit :sadbron: "

wow.

you really don't get it.

Merely discussing the subject is not expressing anger. I say his decision was dumb but its his to make. But my question is how in the fukk does USC only enroll 5% african americans? Thats deplorable. I wouldnt want my name attached to a school with enrollment issues like that

I know right?

you think ice cube would do some chit like this? hell no.

Imagine if someone gave that type of money to these broken schools in the inner cities.....

in fairness, mary got eviction notices on her cribs.

not condoning. just saying you cant stiff somebody out of something that you don't even have.:manny:

Wow I came upon this thread late but it's been a really good argument on both sides. As for me I agree with the overall observation Watkins made that being the mentality of certain wealthy/rich blacks. I would be the first to say "don't tell another man where to spend his money" but what I can't understand is whats so wrong with wanting to see blacks help other blacks particularly the elite helping the less fortunate? I don't want to place all the burden of uplifting the black community on those with the most money but they are certainly able to influence and help many more people than the average black person. We all need to do our part but this negative mentality needs to be addressed and those that do so should not be labeled as "haters". We should be proud to help each other succeed and build a strong community.

People don't even buy 10 dollar albums on this website but we are supposed to be led to believe that people are making donations to the same institutions they are championing just the same?

nothing wrong with that. but there is always an underccurent of attempted shaming with these articles. plus when youlook closely, u realise cats like watckins are hypocrites, dude dont even teach at an HBCU. why doesnt he use his white educated education and take it to the HBCU.

He doesn't have to give it to a HBCU.. but the fact that he gave $35 mill to a private rich snobby school like USC is :scusthov: He didn't even go there for crying out loud. Plus the school does nothing for the area its located in. There has to be some money making grand plan in the end game. this is basically like handing Bill Gates millions- why?

Why do people type shyt like this thinking no one will call them on it?

They do plenty for the community. In fact thanks in part to USC, Figueroa has cleaned up, added a lot of businesses that are supported by the students, and helped with putting in a ton of new apartments. That isn't including all the programs they have that benefit younger kids and the community at large.

LeBron didn't even go to college, and went to a private mostly white HS, in a mostly white area of Akron. :heh:

if black people really cared about HBCU's...they'd donate to them in the same manner they donate to their church or support the projects of people like Tyler Perry and Michael Jordan.

let's just throw out the obvious, that you hate everything about USC.

David Geffen didn't go to UCLA, and he's donated hundreds of millions to UCLA.

nobody popped that " but he didn't even go there, Why did he give 300 Million in the last 10 years" excuse about that.

Why are you holding Dre to some imaginary standard?

i swear, y'all always got flack for rappers giving money to good causes instead of fukkery.

Same logic had them backwards ass women at Spelman protesting Nelly showing up for a Leukemia awareness/donation charity event.
