Simply put, the mystique of their characters.

Sting for that Crow era was WCW's version of The Undertaker. Heck, Warrior tried to be that too and failed...miserably.

Had Sting been the happy go lucky Wolfpack version of himself throughout the whole Monday Night Wars, no one would ever have clamored for a Taker/Sting match.

It was the masterpiece of the Crow gimmick that suddenly made Taker/Sting a dream match.

I was really for Sting vs Austin as main event guys after the WCW buyout...those fans wouldnt just go against Sting...no matter how much they loved Austin and his beer drinking.

All this...

Plus as a kid in elementary... it was always fun to dream up WWF guys vs WCW

Taker vs Sting
Austin vs Goldberg
Rock vs DDP
DX vs NWO

Taker/Sting had the mystique/spookiness.... Austin/Goldberg were 2 fan favorite bald guys in similar attire, etc

The battle of the two overrated non-draws who's reputation is mostly based on them being loyal to their promotions.

I think sting's drawing power is understated.

he was to early '90s WCW, what BG was to underground cash money.

he literally carried the company on his back from point A to point B.

Was it because they never wrestled each other?

Would have been a dream match in the 90s. Why would anyone want to watch either of these guys wrestle post 2006 is beyond me

even before the crow sting era.

take it back to the early '90s surfer sting. back when deadman taker was beefing with warrior & Hogan. you would want to see their rivals match up with sting, and vice-versa, you would also want to see them go at it with sting's rivals as well. so its always been a dream match since '91.

even tho they did wrestle in 1990. but undertaker was nothing without his gimmick.
