Easier said than done. Some people are great con-artists and can slip through the cracks. If you think that you're too smart and savvy for it to happen to you, you're the most susceptible victim of these kinds of people.
To avoid courts, avoid marriage. How hard is that?
Like I said, there are plenty men who are happily casually dating with no long term commitment, having protected sex with minimal fear of unwanted kids, and overall men that aren't getting married because they don't want to.

Women are leaving "great" husbands because they want to be able to fukk around like they did when they were single and young. They still wanna get that last bit of dikk in as cougars and not feel badly about it. If they already have kids, alimony, and child support, why not play the field more after you get divorced? @marcuz you don't get to dictate what other men should and should not do. Just do you, if you see no sense or benefit in marriage, don't feel pressured to marry cause you will be a terrible partner. No one is forcing marriage here, don't be a doormat. Some folks find that it works for them, some don't.

When you get fired, go through serious illness, or experience the death of a parent, that is when your partner's real skills are needed.
