The white guitarists found it easier to digest Eric Clapton blues. The white take on blues..

Guys like Jimi had the basic blues nailed down but experimented far more. He had the embellishments from the r&b style that the white guitarists couldn't nail down.

Jimi was also more raw..he didn't care about missing notes.

Also Jimi had swagger on the guitar and great stage presence. Alot of the British guys have no swagger and no confidence to try half the shyt jimi did.

Creatively he was thinking of stuff nobody could even fathom working. The great thing about not being too constricted by music theory is that you can go and do stuff that might be blasphemous but you don't know so impact/feeling is leading,not theory. Explaining his genius just turns into breaking down theory rules being broken or approached freely,you can play till you're blue in the face but the lesson here is to take risks and emphasize playing with feeling over imposed restrictions

lol theres not nearly that much theory involved.. it wasnt so much the notes as how he played them

lots of 9ths and 7th chords but he stayed pretty pentatonic. he was very blues influenced

Jesse Johnson is underrated and for a while may have been better than Prince..atleast in 80-84...

When they would jam Prince would always put Jesse on bass

His links are incredible and he can really let it shred. Jungle Love solo is a favorite of mine for sure.
