Naw John Mayer a beast, lol
one of the best guitarists the past 20 years, easy
but nobody gonna put him above the Golden Era 60's-80's guys.
kinda like how ppl don't really put modern players above Jordan/Bird/Magic etc etc
like in a vaccuum a lot of guitarists today are better than Hendrix, lol
but in context none of them are...if that makes sense.
Jimmy would've had to stay alive to keep refreshing his phrasing and playstyle
Mayer can play as good as anybody but he don't got the "classic moments"
...to really run with the Jimmy Paige's, Slash's and David Gilmour's of yesterday

He was the first Neo classical shredder..
He influence uli Jon roth..yngvie and Eddie all those type of guys. He was doing divebombs and all that shyt. Scalloped fretboard.
I dig him because he can do the shred...funk(even though he says white guys aren't funky and should stay away
)And he got me into playing and practicing more because his shyt is so complex and speedy at times.

Ritchie Blackmore is a moody mofo though..notice in that video hpoints his Marshall stack that was molded to be the loudest in rock, points the amp directly at his singer...his singer has to mute with his hand..partly why that formation broke up.
Ritchie also slipped a roadie a mickey...I guess the roadie was a slimeball who always tried to pickup young teeny fans so Ritchie slipped him a mickey..stripped the guy naked and put him on a ferry to Iceland
