Nas doesn't make "mainstream" music. They won't let him play. He's like E-40.
:comeon:

Nas is nothing like bum ass E-40. Nas is known as a legend in hiphop worldwide, nobody cares about E-40 outside the Bay.

Just think about the Gamecube and WIIU

Nas makes great music for his hardcore fans just like Nintendo makes great games for hardcore Nintendo fans (zelda, mario, etc)

But that's where it stops, The stuff they make will never appeal anyone outside of the core.
:mjlol: Dude has always had outside/pop fans at one time or another in his career, thats why you see him able to do some of the festivals, been on the crossover records and on mainstream outlets in his career

E40 is actually very influentual. hes an artist that alotta nikkas dont give the proper respect but he still influenced their slang and the subject matter they rap about. im not even a fan like that but you cant deny dudes impact

makin anthems about not saving hoes was way ahead of the game

Nas has exactly what he set out to attain, respect and noteriety on a short list of universally accepted Greats in Hip-Hop. There was a time when nikkas just wanted be respected as Dope MCs. hes accompliished that 10 x over. and his made millions in the process.

ask 9/10 rappers who have had mainstram success if they would rather be in the position they are now, or the position nas is in. theres alotta nellys, and Ja Rules, etc etc that sold 10s of millions that cant even move 300k in 2014.

Nas is not only a dope MC but he's an icon in the culture. So many rappers have come and gone in his time. He may not have the pop success of Jay but Nas is really the voice of the people. Nas could still walk down ghetto blocks without security and get a lot of love. I think his last album still debuted at #1.

U playing if u don't think Nas wasn't deep on the mainsteam level from 96-2003

That was the era where most of us hardcore Nas fans were upset with him. I Am, Nastradamus, and The Firm weren't good representations of him as an artist. Those albums had some moments but it was like he trying to fit in to what was going on at the time. When Nas tries to be mainstream he fails. That proves how dope he is cuz his best music is when he's being himself and sticking to what made us like him in the first place
