Why hasn't Rap had a Classic album in the last 10 years?

That’s prolly cuz you heard Kendrick on that album and get reminded of ATLiens/Aquemini era 3 Stacks and realized he’s a diet version of that mixed with some Eminem.

But gkmc as an album is still fantastic sonically, the storytelling and concept was refreshing for a mainstream rap album in that time period. Kendrick isn’t a god tier rapper like the aforementioned 3 Stacks but he is a excellent rapper, even greater songwriter and knows how to craft a complete body of work.

If I were to give any Kendrick classic label it would be gkmc. Even if Section 80 might be arguably better

There are significantly less now than years back, but classics do drop and the 3 I just listed are very solid

I was reluctant to list it too, but Kendrick will likely go down as the best rapper of his generation (the 2010’s).

gkmc is the album that made him a star. Kinda like It Was Written for Nas. It has the best balance of mainstream hits and appeal coupled with heavy content until he dropped DAMN.

Only DAMN is a watered down version of gkmc

i think pinata is by far the best hip hop project of the 2010s so far. but i dont think its widely regarded and accepted as such for me to call it a "classic."
This man gets it

My measure of a classic album is if you can put an older album you play a lot down for a year then pick it up and say all the rhymes with no problem. I’ll list 3 albums that are classics to me.

1. OutKast-Atliens. If I lost every album besides this one, I would still be ok. I can run that album multiple times in one day.

2. Tribe-Midnight Marauders. I know damn near all the rhymes to all the songs.

3. GZA-Liquid Swords. That album just takes me somewhere man. I absolutely love it.

I don’t care about what Murs is saying lol. That 2007 list of top albums put things into perspective for me though cause I don’t listen to none of them albums no more.
