You're delusional if you think Fancy wouldn't have been a hit if a black chick did it. You honestly think it wouldn't be a hit if that was Nicki Minaj's single instead? Even if it was a new chick, as long as she was attractive it would work. Sounds like a Mustard beat, and his shyt is dominating the radio, plus has a catchy hook? Come the fukk on.
White people are the majority in this country. If you get enough of them to like or buy your product, you're going to sell well. There is no media conspiracy at work, it's basic math. They feel white artists speak to them more personally, just like black people would say a black artist speaks to them more personally.
I'm not worried AT ALL about white people "taking over" rap. For a variety of reasons but here are some:
1. The white population is shrinking. Cacs are dying every day, while the population of blacks, Hispanics, and Asians rises. Remember all those shocked republicans back in 2012 who couldn't believe Obama was gonna win? He won largely due to dominating the demographics that are the future of this country. While whites will remain the majority race for awhile, their buying power is decreasing as the black and brown (and Asian) buying power increases.
2. There are no musical barriers in hip hop. The decline in black musicianship can be directly traced to public schools gutting music education in the 1970s. Whereas once black kids had easy access to a variety of instruments, the 70s changed everything. And guess what was born in the 70s? Hip hop (as we know it). Today hip hop doesn't have a monetary or skill ceiling - anyone can record something on their phone or computer. And technology is only getting cheaper and more accessible.
Another point people overlook: black youth moving away from the church. Choir was once another area where black kids excelled at music, but now younger people aren't nearly as religious or forced to go to church. There was a time when most of the top black singers - from Aretha Franklin to Whitney Houston - made their way through the church system and into the mainstream.
3. White people love hood tales. White people have been the driving force behind hip hop's rise in popularity since Run DMC. They buy the most albums, attend the most concerts, buy the most merch, etc. Public Enemy showed there is quite a hunger for rap music that depicts a life that most white people are unfamiliar with, and that will continue to be true. Iggy doesn't have certain life experiences that white audiences want to hear about, same with Macklemore.
------
The idea of a "white takeover" of rap is nothing but concern trolling. Yes, white artists will continue to sell well and many black artists will continue to sell poorly. But there's a solution to that: buy some fukking music. Every music thread on this forum is dominated by people who download music. I'm not innocent, I download shyt too. But I also pay for many projects from artists I like. I don't want to hear anyone complain about Iggy while they download shyt from Meek Mills or whoever. You're killing music.
