I could argue that it's more difficult to build from the bottom in Canada as well but that's another topic. You're hard pressed to name a black celebrity from Canada, even being from here. We're undermined, underestimated and simply not represented. Some shyt happens to a black male in Canada, it may not even make the news, I got people who've been murdered/harassed by police here as well.
