They have a national championship in most of our lifetimes
They had conference championships
They have decent bowl history

but this coaching history
Rick Neuheisel
1995 - 1998 33 - 14
Gary Barnett
1999 - 2005 49 - 38
Dan Hawkins
2006 - 2010 19 - 39
Jon Embree
2011 - 2012 4-8

and the SHAME a couple of these coaches brought...memorable moments such as:

and this disgrace, after a player says she was RAPED

colorado at one point was >>>>> Oregon. And they're not a broke school...boulder isn't WORSE than eugene or worse or anything...why is this program trash? How is oregon state and iowa more respectable?

Their last 5 recruiting classes according to rivals rankings:

2010 - 66
2011 - 75
2012 - 36
2013 - 68
2014 - 62

Colorado hasn't been shyt since Oregon crushed them in the 02 Fiesta Bowl. The years they won the Big 12 North after that schools like Nebraska and Kansas St had fallen off and going 7-4 was good enough to win that shyt.. Lack of talent at the skill positions caught up with them after a while and schools like USC/Texas being elite again took away that talent they used to steal from CA and Texas. Dan Hawkins pretty much did a Vince Russo to WCW type of nuke job to whatever program they had left and Jon Embree just wasn't the right hire to fix that mess.

Colorado,Washington,Nebraska,Texas A&M,Tennessee,Miami and Syracuse were always major players in the late 80's to mid 90's it's just too many options these days and those schools don't have the pipelines they used to have. Nebraska used to stay eating off of Cali,Florida and Texas plus the "walk-on" program they were pretty much 3 deep loaded for a decade. Miami overachieved they never should've won 2 titles let alone 5 the game is different and they don't have the finances to play big boy ball as much as Cane fans don't wanna admit it. .

EDIT- A&M is making moves again but that program wasn't winning shyt during R.C.'s final years than they got hustled by Dennis Fraudphoney and Mike Sherman. Moving to the SEC was a look good they were midcard 4 life from about 99 on when it came to Big 12 pecking order.

Dan Hawkins  cementing Colorado in :flabbynsick: status n keeping your son out there all that time should be tantamount to child abuse.

The last big win they had was probably upsetting OU back 07 or so, in Boulder.

I'm sure they have a beautiful campus and they're in a good central ground for recruiting from Texas, Cali, Arizona....

I dont think they made themselves marketable enough to be a school that anyone(recruits) cares about.

A lack of superstar players players will do that tho.

Colorado-Nebraska was on a Florida-Florida St level as far as national championship significance for a good 4 year stretch that used to be top 3 game of the year going into every season in the mid 90's.

I consider myself a big CFB fan but I can't name any QB's besides Hawkins son since 04. Only QB I can name off the top of my head is Joel Klatt. FSU played Colorado 2 times in 07 and 08 and I can't even remember who the fukk the QB was they just have nothing that wows you and haven't in a very long time.

I don't get it. Boulder is beautiful, cool uniforms with potential to get better. Nike contract. Stadium is a lil odd, but they should be better than they are. Could be the administration. UCLA was dead for a minute, the right hire at HC can completely change the program.

Instability at the HC spot as well. Wouldn't be shocked if some players gave them the ND/Willingham treatment after how they did Embree. Worst thing they could have done was go from Big 12 to pac12. Two different types of football that will probably take them another 3-5 years just to compete against them

REALLY bad recruiting has crushed them...idk if its the chicken or the egg though. Personally I think the coaching instability and 3 awful [in execution] hires have sunk them.
