It was even being on the reciving end (no pun intended). Like i said...the talent on the field in that game was crazy. If not for the possible greatest team in football history, 94 nebraska, they wouldve got their second title that yr.....they were DEFINITELY the second best team.
Penn State was the 2nd best team in 1994

You could argue FSU/Florida/Alabama were as good as Colorado too.

They had a relatively brief run of success, and people around here felt like they should be a perennial title contender....which was foolish.

With the exception of one fluky year in 2001, their only stretch as an "elite" program was between '89-96.

But as to why they're so bad now? Dan Hawkins burned that shyt to the ground :dead:
But alot of programs start with a stretch like that and build on, look at every school in florida

Miami was doing work in the title game vs Nebraska but they gassed out in the 2nd half. I was rooting for the Canes I never liked Nebraska when I was young I liked seeing FSU and Miami beat up on them. fukking Frank Costa overthrew one of those Jones nikkas for a wide open TD in the 4th quarter. Sapp and Ray Lewis were getting steamrolled in the 4th quarter it was crazy to watch back then.

Yeah due to the "5th down game" at Missouri and a clipping call on a Rocket Ismail return late in the Orange Bowl. 1990 was one of the biggest fukkery years in CFB history people mention 2007 as one but 90 was just as bad. GT played in the fukking Citrus Bowl that year vs a fringe top 15-20 Nebraska and won a share of the NC. :heh:

Georgia Tech made the leap that year because they beat UVa in Charlottsville when they were #1 ranked and 7-0.

Miami were probably the best team in America but they lost against BYU and that knocked them out.

I prefer the Pre Bowl Alliance/BCS fukkery than what we have since.

I see no resemblence of a clipping penalty. SMH that would've been one of the GOAT CFB plays

I remember this. I always thought that Miami team was a notch below but they were formidable.

That big white fullback put in work that 4th quarter for Nebraska

This is the right answer

Same thing happened to Nebraska too. Both of these schools used to eat off California, Underrated Florida, and Louisiana kids.

LSU became really good so that ended Louisiana. There are more D1 schools in Florida now, so that ended that pipeline. And the Pac12 is back so that killed the California recruiting.
Kind of like the ND thing...these pipelines drying up kills your program

Yeah Miami and FSU may have been the best teams end of the year that year but the 2 early losses killed them. Notre Dame choked vs Penn State at home late that season. It seemed whoever was #1 or 2 was losing every 2 weeks that season. Miami killed Texas in the Cotton Bowl I think Texas came into the bowl 3 or 4 they won by like 43. FSU lost at Auburn and Miami back to back weeks to knock them out. Colorado played a nasty schedule that year they tied Tennessee in Anaheim in the opener.

Tennessee......

Tenesee did suffer partially because in state talent declined but you have to adapt and their new coach is a beast in recruting so any school can make a comeback in recruiting if you get a charismatic personable coach who can build relationships on the hs level

I think Tenn will be back soon. And by "back" I don't mean national title back, but at least So. CArolina status.

Shout out to Kordell for the MIRACLE :

I know you remember that @Ed MOTHERfukkING G :russ:

this shyt was amazing....I still struggle to complete this pass on playstation

anyway, to answer the question: it can all be blamed on dan Hawkins and the administration...they thought he was the next best thing since sliced bread cause of boise, and he couldn't do shyt at CU....and the fact they stuck with him the way he stuck with his son at qb, just made them even worse....they still got potential to be a player in college football, the administration just gotta realize they have fallen and it's not gonna be an overnight turnaround...they gotta pick a good young coach and ride with him...they'll be back in it, cause they got the facilities, the campus, the history, and the conference to do so...
