Why is Envy often overlooked or downplayed? (Jordan, Jay Z, Kobe, Drake)

I've noticed that when Jordan, Jay Z, Kobe or Drake have come up in real life convos, they would overwhelmingly get the most hate or slick comments from other men who are 4-5 years close in age to them. Most other people either like them or they're indifferent. Robert Greene (author of 48 Laws of Power, Laws of Human Nature, Mastery, etc) discusses how envy drives a lot of behavior and feelings but people hide behind other reasons. Ironically it's one of the most glossed over parts of his books.

Have y'all noticed this? I bet most of the Jay, Kobe and Drake haters on The Coli are brehs close in age to them.

I think people overstate how envious people are of them/someone as a way to dissuade any criticism

Rich / successful people are not above reproach

That can be true when the criticism is equally widespread across genders and ages but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Jordan, Jay, Kobe and Drake get the most hate from other men close in age to them.
