To put the emphasis on EPMDs influence on G Funk

You have to ask....why did an all west coast album have EPMD on it?

Listen to this song produced by eric Seron in 1992. This song came out a few months before The Chronic. In 2017 it sounds like G Funk but in late 1992 this was the EPMD sound.

No crew had shyt on lock like DefSquad/Hit Squad 1992. Das Efx had the early part, K Solo and Epmd had the summer and Redman closed out the year. Early 90's Marly was still nice..Large Professor was dope, Preemo was that dude but EPMD were the best at repping that hardcore ny sound. They fukked everything up by breaking up.

Im 1991 i was listening to this album and nikkaz4life equally. Both of them are equal level classics.

#1 summer hip hop album 1992.....Between the boomerang soundtrack, Mo Money soundtrack, dj quik, Little sHawns debutalbum, MC Brains debut album and MC Rens ep....EPMD had the best album that summer.

Them Lo Lifes...
The Convicts where from the South..I see you overlooked that as well.:usure:

And EMPD didnt influence G Funk.

Eric Sermon just happen to be one of the first rappers to sample funk..

Geto Boys from the south too, I see u overlooked that.

But back to EPMD influencing G Funk...

Actually it was PE and EPMD......PE gave the west those popular whistles.....

But the whistles go as far back as Afrika Bambatta

Why u think Dre remixed Express Yourself to sound like PE? Because PE was the biggest thing at the time.

Lets go back to 1988 tho......when EPMD was doing this..

Eazy E had Boyz N The Hood which musically sounds like mid 80s NYC Hip Hop.

Even Cube admitted they were trying to do PE's type sound on SOC

But back to EPMD...This is proof that Dr Dre in some form acknowledged what EPMD was doing atleast by 1989 because he's in the video.

lol..I I did overlook the Geto boys on that compilation.

And come on breh breh..NYC is the Mecca so they had influence over most if not all aspects of hip hop period..

It really wasnt UNTIL G funk that changed the landscape of rap music.

Other than..cats where outright looping funk and/or throwing breakbeat drums(the foundation of hiphop music) over the track..

And I take it when you mean P.E. you are referring to the Bomb Squad..

Facts

and they were on Def Jam and if there's been two labels that have done a good job of preserving Hip Hop history and showcasing their former artists its Def Jam and Interscope (and the rights they have to priority, death row etc etc)

I'm surprised they havent been immortalised more

When I first heard them, they had a new style. It was a style that people kinda attributed to Rakim [who was also from Long Island], but to me their music was a lot funkier. When I think of EPMD, I think of beats — I think of the ultimate beats, and they had 'em. They had some of the best beats that money could buy. The first three albums — it's hard to find better beats in that era. Them dudes was just known for having everything an MC needs. My favorite EPMD song? Oh my God ... 'You Gots to Chill.' When they dropped that, that's what did it for us out here in the West because they was using [Zapp's] 'More Bounce to the Ounce,' and it was just fire.

Cube on EPMD when MTV made that greatest groups of all time list.

As good as EPMD may have been I think their Achilles heel were lyrics. None of them really have any quotable verses. Just a style other people took and ran with

Soooo many notable people quoted sooo many epmd lyrics this statement aint addin up

"Jus like epmd , l never trust bytch named J. to the A. to the N. E." Da lench mob

That line immediately came to mind...so much more out there u jus gotta be up on em to catch it
