More nikkas need to listen to Crossover. The lyrics are REAL.

To add emphases on EPMDs G funk influence....

Summer 92...EPMDs lead single Crossover.....in 2017 it sound like mid 90's Cali gangster boogie shyt but again, this was EPMDs sound

now lets match that up with MC Rens 1st single for the summer 92, Final Frontier.

This is a 1987 BDP beat....So while one of the hottest mcs from compton was rhyming over South Bronx beats, EPMD was doing what would later be regarded as G Funk

Listen to this song produced by eric Seron in 1992. This song came out a few months before The Chronic. In 2017 it sounds like G Funk but in late 1992 this was the EPMD sound.

No crew had shyt on lock like DefSquad/Hit Squad 1992. Das Efx had the early part, K Solo and Epmd had the summer and Redman closed out the year. Early 90's Marly was still nice..Large Professor was dope, Preemo was that dude but EPMD were the best at repping that hardcore ny sound. They fukked everything up by breaking up.

Im 1991 i was listening to this album and nikkaz4life equally. Both of them are equal level classics.

#1 summer hip hop album 1992.....Between the boomerang soundtrack, Mo Money soundtrack, dj quik, Little sHawns debutalbum, MC Brains debut album and MC Rens ep....EPMD had the best album that summer.

As good as EPMD may have been I think their Achilles heel were lyrics. None of them really have any quotable verses. Just a style other people took and ran with
breh they may not be super lyrical but Erick Sermon's pretty witty. a number of times he's said some clever shyt that made me laugh out loud.

"nikkas sittin' in they room with brandy/way pissed off thinking how they can't stand me" :pachaha:

matter of fact he floated on this :banderas:

he's not wack by any means, he's better than them slum village nikkas at least(i'm talking the early iteration not the one with Elzhi in the group)

also, he had some pretty decent bars on that Def Squad album El Nino

I think EPMD is highly slept on and let's not forget all their affiliates, Redman, Keith Murray, Jamal, Das Efx; they've really contributed to the landscape of Hip Hop that's nothing to sneeze at.
