Why is Galactus hell bent on eating Earth?

Why won’t he just eat it? Why is there a struggle?

He does'nt eat a planet as much as he simply consumes all life energy that exists on it and that takes a lot of set up

The Fantastic Four usually stop him...and then The Ultimates did last time IIRC

Earth just has a lot going for it in terms of power

There are Omega Level Mutants (Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, Mags, Jean, Xavier, Franklin Richards, etc.) running around the planet, powerful mystic energy sources and conduits, not to mention the possibility of a Cosmic Cube or even an Infinity Stone just happening to be here.

Earth would be the equivalent of pulling an all nighter at an All You Can Eat Buffet at the finest steakhouse in NYC or LA

Xavier was listed with eternity as more powerful/important than Galactus during a Sterling comic. I can only imagine with Rachel, Magneto, Cable, Nate and some of those omega mutants where they rank on that list.

Probably, all I know is he promised he wouldn't devour Earth after Reed Richards saved his life. Also, if I'm not mistaken, he's necessary to the structure of the Universe so he ain't getting killed anytime soon.​
