Why Is Generation X So Afraid Of Getting Old?

I don't agree with the taking selfies in the club while being married. but what's wrong with showing off weight loss and bragging about promotions? I'm sure people did that before. They just weren't able to put it on the internet for everyone to see.

Nothing wrong with it on the surface, but it was an attribute that, up until now, were seen as something that usually faded by your 30s. Baby Boomer hippies grew up, got jobs and never looked back. While now, a 15 year old will pose to get likes, while their parents are online bragging or clamoring for attention like they are.

Its just new territory, and a sign of the times.

I'm gonna be 28 in a few months, I've been rocking fitted hats since i was 14. Lots of shyt came and went. I mean, they even brought snap backs back I'll probably be 40 and still rock a fresh fitted

Out of curiosity, what do you consider Generation X to be?



Because I thought of Generation X as being people who were in their teens and 20s in the early 90s...which would put them in their mid-to-late 40s now.

No. mid-late 20s today is firmly within Y. The border of X and Millenial would straddle around those from 1982-84ish.

This whole labeling of a generation thing is stupid. The would has DRASTICALLY changed in the last 5 years.. I can put people 20 years apart in the same category...

And there's no diff from someone born at the end of one of these generations to someone born at the beginning of the next..

True, but those of us from the mid 80s to early 90s can relate to Gen X some, becasue we grew up without the internet early on. It was only used in school. It wasn't until the 00s, which would make the mid 90s born kids, true Millennials.

My younger sibling was born in 97, we're both Millenials, but she wont ever remember her life without a computer in the home. The internet to me didint start until I was 4th or 5th grade. I cant related to gen X on a cultural level, but that Internet gap does separates some people on their prospective. I know it does me. I remember my childhood with no technology in the house other than a TV and a phone.

4th grade 1999, but I only used that shyt for a few school projects, never to just surf

No, I went to public school in the Bronx. Maybe it was 95, I'm 29 years old so that shyt feel like a century ago.. I know we had internet in the crib a month or so before PAC died (96)that's kinda my reference point

I don't think the fear of getting old is something unique to us gen x'ers. I think it's just we are the age group closest to yours that is approaching or already in our 40's moving on to middle age so you see it more.

No but in today's times it's clear in today's 40-50 year old than ever before that they don't wanna get old. The middle age adults 30 years ago gracefully accepted their age and didn't try so hard to fit in with their kids generation back then. Today, you have 35-40 year olds posting selfies in cleavage and liquor straight out of the club like 21 year olds

Big deal. Who is anyone to say how someone else should age so long as no one is being hurt? Do you clown the active and fit 40 year old for still playing sports? If a 35-40 year old is living life in a manner you don't approve of, why not just step to them and tell them personally instead of just bringing it to where they won't see?

People's standards of "Old" keep getting pushed back because of culture/economics/health etc, and with how much it costs to get a career going society basically made adolescence longer too.

Whats your frame of reference on how middle aged adults were acting 30 years ago? Im assuming you werent around then. The whole point of this thread is to sort of sht on people getting older in order to feel better about oneself, so if you're not going to treat them gracefully how can you except them to act graceful in kind? Im thinking that younger people were far more respectful of older cats in the past, and not making them out to be weak because they're "flabby and sick."

There have been great changes to our way of life in the past 30 years, which has changed the overall behavior of the culture in general. I get that. However, thats overall and you cant just single out one group based on some arbitrary distinction of being from generation x, y, z, 1, 2, 3 whatever the fukk all that is supposed to mean anyway.
