I'm certain he's going to start this year, but 1st overall pick should be able to beat out an undraftee and a 3rd round pick at the position. That's a massive payment for a guy who can't start day one.

The first few weeks didn't define McNabb's career and it's never discussed, so the sunken costs is semantics. The QB position is a special snowflake whereas players are still drafted long term, whereas every other position, the clock ticks on the contract and career from day 1
