Idk man.
It's a rap emo trend going on....they're using our (depressed and anxious emos) pain for profit.
It's all forced mostly. But some is real.
I NEVER posted my feelings online.
That's corny.

From what I can see, being emotional and vulnerable is trendy now. Acting like you are a complete mess and trying to "find peace" is cool now and a conversation starter. Of course everybody can't be depressed but people will latch on to the movement to fit in. White people been on the wave for years now and we all know Black people be 10 years late so now Black folks on the wave. It's annoying.

It's in vogue to view everything as glass half empty instead of glass half full. Weakness and vulnerability are in vogue nowadays too and I think being sad and depressed falls under that umbrella. That's not to completely brush off mental illness which is a very real thing, but some people are literally reveling in being weak. Looking at this country, there's a lot efforts to make it weak internally. Trigger warnings, micro-aggressions, safe spaces, safe rooms with coloring books and play-dough for college students, etc.. These are all real things!! Look at Terry Crews who is basking in the glory that comes with declaring himself a victim and women are rewarding him.

Whole country has gone soft.

It's not a trend. Ironically named social media has created a lot of anti-social people and habits :dead:

not going outside mingling with people just stalking them online instead... watching others live and feeling like you can't keep up.

It's having a real mental effect on the generation that has grown up with it. all these followers and they ain't real friends so you lonely. all these likes but they don't really give a fukk. the fake love and affection cant touch the real thing.

on the flip side, there are people who are performative cynical/pessimistic/misanthropes and in all honestly, they're easily avoidable.

yeah life and the world can be hard and fukked up. when is that ever not been the case throughout history

which is why I love all the silly goof shyt there is on social media, like this

plus other than here or on instagram, I spend most of my time outside and interacting with people around me. the kind that make life worth living.

Well, having material possessions doesn't necessarily mean someone ain't got something to be depressed about. There could be plenty of other valid factors that weigh on someone's mind.

To answer the question, it's a Column A/Column B situation. American society is gradually becoming more open about depression and mental health. Of course, since it's en vogue to be sad, naturally there's going to be people being fake sad to fit in.
