WHY is it that the western conference has been better for so long?

Atlanta got dimes like this that would give the 15th nikka on the roster some action, I'd beg to be traded there if I didn't play for L.A or Miami.

Man I keep hearing this about Atlanta :gladbron:

This is like the polar opposite of the Bay area in Cali, or PHX in AZ. There are no dime black girls in those places at all. shyt I may have to take an exploratory trip to ATL :mjpls:

Maybe it's because the very worst teams in the Leauge were in the west as well? Just a guess, I don't have the stats to back it up but I'd be curious to see in what conference the 4 worst teams in L were from year to year. Because if the middle of the pack teams have better records in the West maybe their getting those wins from playing the worst teams more times than the East teams play them?

This is the best theory I've heard as to why the West is better. But the gap is not as bad as it was in the early to mid 2000's.

Its true, look at Seattle/OKC. Shawn Kemp/Gary Payton era was mid 90's since then they were rebuilding over the years. They brought Vin Baker, Ray Allen all types of nikkas since then. There was no pressure to win, then they drafted KD and Russ and they started winning again. Took 15 years but it happened and they didn't have to go thru a whole bunch of coaches and GMs to make it happen. It was organic, but look at the media scrutiny the Knicks went through for the same rebuilding process. Mid to late 90's winning, since then they went through a few coaches, brought a few free agents that didn't pan out, GM after GM. The media pressure from it and finally Carmelo and Amare.

the evils of truth, and love
I'm not talking about the finals though, the top teams in both conferences have been pretty even. Its why the 4-8 seed type teams in the east have had consistently worse records for such a long period of time.

the west has a flashyness about it that gives people delusions of grandeur

the east is grit and grind; playing the hardest and outlasting eachothers pace

even if they have more W's out west its hard to say they are better when they benefit from the easts toughness and heart

west has an advantage that the East will never have with the timezone difference a West team can play those 7:30 games out east and not fukk there energy level up while when an East team travels to the West that time zone difference just fukks with them playing games normally 7:30 around 10:30 til midnight

or its just a cycle. you know, kinda like the one where 8 of 10 champs were from the east. the last 25 years, its split 13 east and 12 west. who cares really

Exactly. Put either the Spurs or Lakers in the East and it would be "Why has the eastern conference been so much better for so long?" :heh: Beyond that it is a matter of style. More western teams tend to be up and down high scoring squads which translates better in the regular season while east teams tend to be better defensively which translates better in the playoffs. You can't really go by records because the bottom half teams in the west have just as little chance to go to the Finals and compete for a title as their east counterparts.

It's as simple as the West drafting better players in recent years (past 15 or so). Duncan, Kobe, Durant, Dirk, Gasols, Paul, Griffin, Westbrook, Curry, etc. Teams like Philly and Atlanta have been horrible or unlucky drafters for years. That's how 4-8 of the West ends up better.

That's a very valid point too. The West has drafted some good to great players over the years. And it really wasn't until the East got Bron and Howard that things started to balance out more.

Hell even in the 90s the East was always very top heavy while the West's lower seeded teams were some solid ass squads. In the 90s you had the Sonics/Rockets/Suns/Jazz/Spurs/Blazers/Warriors that all had superstars on them. You never knew year to year which team would be good and usually had crazy playoff battles. In the East it was mainly Pacers/Bulls/Knicks and the rest of the teams were beat up on.
