Why is it that white liberals are seemingly above criticism for their racism?

Did anyone catch the Starz docu-series America To Me? The show does a pretty good job of showing you how self righteous and condescending alot of these white liberals are..
There's one instance where a white liberal teacher [who's parents were apparently apart of the civil rights movement] makes a joke about one of the black girls hair in front of the class, she confronts him and he refuses to see how she could be bothered by it, dude was condescending on some "hey I know and understand black people" shyt.
