Why is Libya considered such a foreign policy disaster?

2011 my g and it took 8 months.
You right, 2011. But we're talking about the time between the Iraq invasion and the Libyan intervention. 8 years.

dude what are you talking about?

The removal of forces in Iraq, and the collapse of the Levant was all in the span of a few months.
:dahell:The post you responded to was about learning the lessons from Iraq. Your argument hinges on the idea that we couldn't have known interventionist regime change was not a good idea because "it was all within the span of a few months". Withdrawal ended in 2011, but began in 2007 and shyt was already going south by then. Al-Qaeda in Iraq was fully operational by like 2005. The collapse of the Levant was only non-evident by 2011 to the blind.

It was poorly calculated, and the mission by the US took far too long, predicting the strength and brutality of ISIS and it's affiliated groups was something that was impossible without the power to predict the future.
Its considered a foreign policy disaster simply because it didn't pan out like we'd hoped and the region is (and was already going to be) a mess.

I hear that but regardless of whether a no-fly was enforced or not, Libya would still have fragmented and whatever happened then would've more or less happened. US intervention is not responsible for all the post-Gaddafi problems facing Libya.

The country is very similar to Somalia in that both countries were ruled by a dictator since 1969 and underneath the surface major divisions were bubbling. Countries like that have no recognised leaders or institutions than can fill the vacuum when the main actor is removed.

So I'll say it one more time, Libyans were not automatically going to become conciliatory and cooperate to maintain peace without Western intervention. It was/is a zero sum game with the entire country as the prize. Everyone's appetites are whetted because there is no clear successor to Gaddafi. You were always going to get the fight for supremacy.

@Trajan the claim Gaddafi did something was by Dr. Soliman Bouchuiguir who in turned created a fake story-line with misinformation written all over it...He was exposed for lying...

So what people were uprising? Benghazi...

Pages 8, 9, 11 Explain where the AL-Qaida fighters were coming from.

Yet when Gaddafi said it was AL-Q, the msm dismissed it on purpose.

So what people were uprising? 1% ....cause 1.7 Million people were supporting him in the capital alone.

Your perspective seems to be built on a western msm narrative which is why youre probably so puzzled. If destroying a thriving secular African nation, increasing francophone influence in the region/continent and leaving a barren wasteland for groups we funded to build some kind of death cult were the objectives - well then it was a success, not a disaster.

Ghadaffi was a prolific rapist, terrorist, and brutal dictator.

fukk Arab North Africa
:patrice: So how many times did he rape you?...are you getting some counselling? and calling Libya "Arab North Africa" shows how out of touch you are with reality...its not as simple as what they show you on CNN
Theyre mostly Berbers and Touregs from the African continent and the people who were fukked over the hardest by the fake uprising/coup were the Black libyans who were Ghaddafi loyalists and made up the bulk of his military.

Ghaddafi himself was a Pan African who sent money and weapons to many African independence movements all the way down to South Africa

he did more for Black people than YOU ,Obama and Hillary all put together and multiplied by 100
