Philly for football, NYC to be in the greatest city in the country...even the 2 professional NFL teams in NJ don’t claim NJ :picard:

don’t kno much about it outside the school. easton ave has some decent bars of u don’t mind cacs. it’s still pretty diverse despite the cac presence.

central jersey belongs to nyc. i had an internship in the city while i went to school. and yea, nj has no identity at all. sza is from around my neighborhood n u never hear her talk about it (i did tho briefly at a show in 2014 n it brought her to tears). i don’t blame her. having talent means having some sort of identity, and that will get u a lot of hate out here.

kyrie from jersey, and as square as he is, he represents the average jersey breh very well.
Only cats from Newark stand out. Redman. :salute:

Joining the Big Ten was a great move financially, but I wonder if it would have been a better overall move to join the ACC. They have no natural rivals in the Big Ten, except for Penn State, but PSU will never view Rutgers as a rival. In the ACC, they could build rivalries with Cuse, BC, and Pitt and would get to play Notre Dame every year in basketball and every few years in football. They would also get to play games in Southern states, which would allow them to establish recruiting ties in areas where there are a ton of athletes.

Damn. Hard to argue with this.
:yeshrug: I actually visited NJ frequently when I stayed in philly...I was advised to move there and commute to philly for work but I couldn’t see anything distinctive about the place...philly took their spot as the lower priced alternative to New York :manny:

It’s tough for all New Jersey universities to recruit (basketball wise). Not only is Rutgers struggling but Seton Hall is as well. It just comes down to the scenery. You can go to big State universities ( Ohio State and Michigan ), you can go to private ACC universities that are close to home ( Syracuse or Boston college) and finally other big East schools ( which solely recruits basketball).

Just a brutal landscape.

Rutgers won’t be more than a launch job. Coaches will use them to springboard into a better coaching gig.

Sad cause that area has a lot of talent.

I live here near Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco. Hella football talent coming out of here. Rutgers should be eating yet what you said pretty much speaks to the reality of the school.

If they can find a coach who wants to stay long term they can do things. Big ten gives them notoriety but it’s gonna be hard to get recruits up there.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
1. They have a history of losing.

2. They don't have a major instate rival.

3. Location sucks in the winter.

4. Nobody stays in New Jersey if they don't have to.

5. They don't hire good coaches who can recruit.

Basically Rutgers is a FCS athletic program masquerading as a FBS. Two years ago all of top recruits in football attended their game against Michigan led by jersey native Jabrill Peppers and they got destroyed.

Tri State Area
Most of the elite programs in Jersey are prep schools. So the elite schools in both basketball and football are plucking them left and right

I.e
Kyrie Irving (Montclair)
Andre Bynum (St Joseph)
Jay Williams (st Joseph)
JR Smith - (St Benedict) even tho he skipped college, he committed to UNC)
Luel Deng (Blair)
Tristan Thomson (st Benedict)
Karl Anthony (st Joseph)
Joakim Noah (Lawrencville)
Marrief/Marcus Morris
Tyler Ennis (st Benedict)
Charlie Villenueva (Blair academy)
Kyle Anderson- some catholic school

Then the other elite guys like Kidd Gilchrist, Shaq, Earl Clark, Hassan Whiteside, Dejuan Wagner, Sam Delembart, Randy Foye, Kenneth Farried, Tim Thomas, Al Harrington, etc had no interest in Rutgers, no chance in hell..
Smh @Rutgers..New Jersey is stacked fr
