That would be best for both parties, to be honest.
Agreed

The thing is , he coached them when they were still in the Big East.

I don’t know if they will EVER really compete in the Big 10... they get the bag for being in the conference though :yeshrug:

I mean, yeah, they're in the Big 10 East, so they gotta deal with tOSU/Michigan/PSU every year. There's no reason they can't be a Maryland though.

I was a pretty decent basketball player that had a few d1 offers. Rutgers didnt recruit me but even if they did I wouldn't have gone there. For me it didnt have that college feel. Campuses were too spread out and there was no real identity. Now I think the school is figuring out and they upgraded the buildings and facilities but still there really isnt any kind of culture.

Times were pretty good when schiano was in town, new brunswick finally felt like a college town.

All the NJ kids go to other schools before they even look at Rutgers
Facts. Pertaining to basketball: Seton Hall has a bigger name and is in the Big East so your family will be able to see you play more often.

Rutgers is in a tough spot and they don’t do themselves any favors by not ingratiating themselves with the grassroots folks in the area. If they were smart, they would hire either a head coach or lead assistant from a big time AAU program and start from there.

Truth... its a lot of talent in Jersey and Philly area, but they go to Penn State or somewhere far away.
Jeremiah Trotter son is a beast and from Jersey, and is going to Clemson.

My brother is a freshman at St Joes Prep and will likely get some offers in couple years, RU not even on his radar...
Its sad...

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Football is easy.

They play in the same conference as Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan...... and have to convince recruits to come play in THIS STADIUM :mjpls:

It really is like a FCS team joined the Big 10.

I honestly hope they get a decent program eventually. Jersey has too much talent for them to be like this.

The Ray Rice days were fun.
That 06 year with Rutgers, West Virginia, and Louisville all battling it out in the Big East as top 10 teams was the high point of Big East football.

Rutgers is an academic school 1st and foremost, on top of that the football program was never good enough for it to maintain it's pipeline, fact of the matter is schools like Penn State (only a 90 min 2hr drive at worst from most of Jersey), Pittsburgh, All the Ohio Schools, and Michigan have bigger pipelines. The best football high schools/Academies like Del Barton, Don Bosco, Seton Hall Pret, St Peters. hell even high schools in the hood like East Orange, Westside, Union have these midwest schools on speed dial.

Miami and Va Tech leaving the Big East was doom for the conference.

Honestly, Rutgers will never be prominent and was lucky the during those years. Those teams were carried by a handful of talented players.
