There are a lot of dumb motherfukkers with HS diplomas

I can not even imagine where the US would be if all of those motherfukkers were completely uneducated and illiterate.

Public school isn't perfect but don't cry about it unless you can present a better alternative.

Not to mention, it's the job of the PARENTS to transition kids into adulthood. All school is there for is formal education in a limited range of subjects

What a stupid article :snoop:

......um..... Brazil....

Some kids are gonna be f*cked either way, there is no way around that. I just think we should shift the responsibility for raising our youth back onto parents rather than just accepting that its for the best if the state does it. The breakdown of the household has(in my opinion) done more damage than having more uneducated people ever will.

But thats just my opinion.

...:ufdup:and again, no one is saying scrap or privatize k-12.

So your answer is not to improve the institution, but rather weaken it further and facilitate more kids dropping out... which would make those proficiency numbers plummet even more.

Got it.

:heh:
At this point tearing it down and starting over may be the only realistic way to improve it.

You gonna start supporting a higher minimum wage and a reduced work week so parents don't have to work multiple jobs to get by and actually have time to properly invest in and nurture their children?

In the future there isn't gonna be public education. It's gonna be all online with each kid going at their own pace
Self directed education is the best. Kids should learn what they want at their own pace. Forcefully teaching a kid something they don't give a shyt about won't have any use to them.

I REALIZE THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA, BUT HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AMERICANS TRY IT, BROTHER:

Again, how do you see an increase in uneducated people being a net plus for society?

I'd rather pay for the 8 hour a day custody and education of that kid for 13 years than 24/7 custody of that uneducated, ineligible, damn near guaranteed to be a criminal/drain on society adult for double or triple that. Just from a pure economic POV K-12 is a net plus
As things are now you have a high chance of doing both in this country.

:jbhmm:What improvements would you make to the system? If any.

In my opinion we have a parenting problem not necessarily a school problem.

Removing the mandate places responsibility directly on the parents and removes the state as the scapegoat.

What if the parents are fukk ups? Why should the Children be punished because their parents are irresponsible a$$holes.

Do you mental midgets even realize why we have compulsory public school in the first place?

It's to ensure everyone regardless of background can be educated. When compulsory public education was introduced a lot of short sighted parents would have preferred their kids work the farm or get shytty factory jobs to "support" the family.

Only sheltered ass, spoiled native born Americans would be making these types of asinine arguments.

Thousands of immigrant parents the world over, mine included, made great sacrifices so their kids could come to this country and take advantage of its educational system. It's no wonder then that you see the success rates of immigrant kids compared to native born kids in the U.S.

You stupid muthafukkas have no idea how good you have it.

I think the public education system can be greatly improved, but this same system you guys deride so much has been instrumental in lifting about 20 or so of my relatives who immigrated here from working class stiffs, to solidly middle class professionals - many with advanced degrees.

I'm legit :scust: at some of you.

The immigrants you mentioned would have taken advantage of the schooling, mandated or not.

... and i believe it would lead to a decline in irresponsible parents :manny:

Ya'll would complain even if we went to a montessori program, so whats the difference.

Anything compulsory makes you all upset because you all have admitting theres a standard that needs to be achieved to push everyone forward.

The relative success of this country has forced you all to lack appreciation for the hard work and effort of the truly successful whose coattails you ride on with no understanding of what it took to live the life you live.

Because stuff like this shouldn't be compulsory. Human beings strive for freedom. No one wants to be forced to do anything. Give us options. Give us choices. That's how it should be.

All it would just lead is a growth of the under educated or flat out uneducated who would then become a bigger drain on society.

Again, why should kids have to suffer because they have shytty parents? Shouldnt society be able to step in in the case of gross negligence of minors?
