I'd like to add the concept of calorie restriction to this debate :lupe:
nobody considers eating less along with eating healthy

Excellent point.....Our foods are extremely calorie rich per volume for the most part...and that can cause a lot of bullshyt issues, like abnormal weight gain and insulin resistance

I've had several family members die from diseases associated with bad eating habits and lack of exercise. Like most black people in America, I grew up on soul food (grandparents were from the deep south) So all that fried food, food cooked with pork, sugar filled desserts that we all love- I woud eat that on the regular.

But heart disease, hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks etc are slow agonizing death sentences. We need to push health and fitness more in our communities. I try to do my part as much as possible

shyt is bad in the UK for black people, the statistics are worrying. Funnily enough people from the Indian subcontinent also have a rate just as high

To put it simple, they stole and still steal the good food that comes from our motherland Africa and the homeland Caribbean. And left us with the shyt, and now they poisoning us. That goes for all races

It's kinda usual for black people to die in their late 40s/early 50s in the uk

Ima put you brehs onto this website I've been using the last two months where healthy meals are made. The guy that put it together is some breh from Texas and he has so much variety of foods you will never get tired of cooking.

Fitmencook.com is a gem! I've cooked for some people and they've been impressed on how healthy food could taste so good.
I've been digging through that site ever since I saw you mention it, man its off the hook. Dont sleep ya'll

One of the worse problems facing our society.
My mom actually clowns me for eating healthy.
Yet she has diabetes and both sides of my family have a history of it.

Some ppl just dont care or find it too hard to give up the things that are causing them harm. No one can claim ignorance in this day & age.

Eating well is actually cheaper than eating out and exercise is free.

Ppl just have to make it a priority.
in the long term it's cheaper, but you have to pay more upfront and buy things in bulk.

if you got small income, it's difficult to allocate a larger part of your budget to healthy foods when fast food is cheaper in the very short term

Currently reading this book to improve my knowledge of nutrition. You can read it for free here on www.overdrive.com all you need is a library card.

For fitness I use the gym sub-forum on here, bodybuilding.com forums, and YouTube. I'm starting to learn about counting macros to really start seeing how to cut and bulk and whatnot. I've been going slowly and finding healthy ish I like and can prepare. I've been messing with brown rice, breast tenderlions, and frozen veggies a lot. Lost about 10 pounds in 3 weeks just eating at a caloric deficit and picking up a workout routine.

I use to have borderline high blood pressure until I changed my eating habits and put exercise in my life, now my Blood Pressure is excellent (103/60) and my heart rate per second followed as well (63).

Change your eating habits folks, I know it's hard but the least you can do is get rid of the fried food, processed microwaveable junk, candies, chips, and soda. Black folks like to eat but think about your health before you think about indulging yourself in empty calories you don't need. You feel so much better when you eat healthier.

Not saying I don't slip up once in a while, because I do - but please don't make it a habit everyday thing.

This is a tangible thing we can fix in the community outside white folks. I'm starting urban gardens in my city this year and my goal is to have a string of urban gardens thougout the hood I lived in. Get people involved in the process of growing veggies, spices, flowers and canning them for products. I want to change this shyt eating culture. Too many unnecessary deaths due to poor eating habits. We can't be dealing with psycho cacs if we can't even eat properly.

It depends on what you mean when you say eating healthy. And its not like we're eating junk all day, the American diet is carb\sugar heavy, and our bodies just aren't designed for it.....

We continue to drink milk and eat cheese for God's sake, knowing good and damn well we're lactose intolerant

Almond Milk breh....

Koohbt, great postings. It's true that low income folks eat reckless but so do middle/high income. Miss me with the low income folks lack of money because low income folks can go buy the latest name brand b/s just to be in the club and post pic to IG to say they shat on sum1, miss me with that. The low income who on soc.services can use the same indy card to buy healthy foods in the low income markets. It's def a matter of education, we need all sorts of pamphlets, seminars, community based events the whole nine from grade K-12.
It should be a matter in many black cities across the nation, white too...they deal with these issues too. Don't buy too much into the statistics, lot of statistics are based in propaganda which has it's own narrative. Never expect positive stats from most media outlets, don't even look for them to provide it.

Brehs start with your own city first, network with fellow like minded it's not hard...all this fb/ig/twit u can start the movement or join one and get shyt done

Kudos to the community farming, it's already being done. This is BMore in a ghetto, it's being done in inner cities all across the country.
