Because people appreciate the teamwork aspect of football.
It takes blocking, running, catching and passing to score points.

Not an arrogant jagaloon dribbling up the court and shooting the ball while trashing his teammates.

:sas2:

THE MOST SUCCESFUL NBA TEAMS MOVE ON A STRING ON DEFENSE AND PLAY AS A UNIT ON OFFENSE.. SO THIS ARGUMENT MAKES NO SENSE

THEN MMA SHOULD BE THE NUMBER 1 SPORT

it's still a new sport.
remember Boxing was a top 2 sport in america until it killed itself with PPV.
Basketball has never been number 2 in america. they used to broadcast the finals on tape delay up into the 80s :mjlol:
face the NBA ain't as big as ya'll think :manny:

Shorter season requires less attention, every play has meaning, and more americans follow it- success breeds success.

NBA SEASON DOESNT REQUIRE ATTENTION, EVEN IF FANS ONLY WATCH HIGH PROFILE/NATIONALLY TELEVISED GAMES, THATS ENOUGH TO KEEP UP WIT THE TEAM .. SO IT DOESNT EXPLAIN WHY NATIONALLY TELEVISED FOOTBALL GAMES GET MORE VIEWERS THAN NATIONALLY TELEVISED NBA GAMES.

I GET THAT EVERY PLAY HAS MORE MEANING IN A SHORTER REGULAR SEASON, BUT THAT DOESNT HOLD TRUE FOR THE NBA PLAYOFFS, WHERE EVERY GAME IS VITAL TO SURVIVING ANOTHER ROUND, AND MANY GAMES GO DOWN TO THE WIRE.

All of the answers stated, plus because of the popularity of college and high school football. I'm sure some people do watch high school BB, but high school FB is HUGE so you essentially get to see some of these guys grow up from being little kids into the NFL. There's like a cumulative effect that no other sport has
