because we FAIL to realize HIP HOP isn't and has not BEEN A "CULTURE" since the first big recording deals were handed out....

It's due to the fact that Corporate America and "Madison Ave" has always seen "HIP HOP" as a trendy gimmicky pastime...so the respect for "vets" and "old school legends" becomes a non factor when the whole emphasis is placed on the YOUTH with their fickle tastes and trivial value systems...

it's BEEN LIKE THAT....even during the GOLDEN ERA cats like LL COOL J and RUN DMC took shots at the old school even though they ackowledged the fact they were influenced by the Cold Crushes and Grandmaster Caz's...

"so all u Jheri Curl suckers wearing high heel boots, like ballerinas when i see ya your like a FRUIT LOOP troupe"....

that was an OBVIOUS diss to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 whose fashion sense of leather outfits and funky boots where seen as DATED by the new emerging recording artists...

HIP HOP has always been about that "NEXT SHYT"...OR "NEW STYLE"....

which has it's PROS AND CONS.....it does keep the MUSIC and scene FRESH and exciting but at the same time it puts a limited SHELF LIFE (career) on talent hoping to have some longevitiy......

it's sad ...because other genres really don't do that...rock has CLASSIC ROCK, the r&b has it's CLASSIC SOUL ...and Reggae has it's ROOTS FOUNDATION TUNES.....

And they all are highly respected......i guess cause thier is STILL SOME SENSE OF CULTURE in those genre as opposed to the MARKETING SCHEME that HIP HOP has been since 1986

Younger cats don't shyt on The Rolling Stones in the process of bigging up Green Day or whoever the fukk. Nobody shyts on Johnny Cash to big up Leann Rimes.

And I don't mean message boards, I mean out in the real world. I've yet to talk to anybody....literally one person....that is a fan of any other genre of music, that has such disdain for the "legends" of whatever type of music they listen to.

If you never realized rappers are usually men who are small and weak minded with deep Napoleon Complexes and Inferiority Complexes. They always want to be on top because of their insecurities, so they always want to erase the past and create their own legacies. Its also because some of these rappers are jealous of the greta impact these legends have and constantly try to stack up to it like their making history and moves when nikkas cant even sell MC Hammer numbers anymore :snoop:

Actually, there was Beatles fans shytting on The Rolling Stones for calling themselves the greatest rock n roll band. You have people saying that Kurt Cobain could barely play the guitar and he would never have held up to legendary front men who also played the guitar. Theres people who go back and forth with The Who and Doors. Punk fans are NOTORIOUS for shytting on one band in favor of another. Punks shyt on The Sex Pistols while big upping Crass or Dead Kennedys. Even in techno/house/EDM you have people shytTING on Deadmau5 and Tiesto while big upping some underground obscure DJ no one knows.

You guys just don't pay much attention to non-hip hop music and it seems like only hip hop fans do this but it isnt true. Theres elitists and people who argue in every genre.

You think young nikkas give a fukk about The Rolling Stones? The Who? The Kinks? If they even recognize the name they just discard it as old head music. You think teenagers are sitting at home looking up who Eric Clapton is and paying homage to him?

This is true.

And I'll tell you this as a music fan: fukk the Beatles pre-1996 and fukk Kurt Cobain and his overrated band.

None of that shyt is the same as what we're talking about. Beatles vs the Stones would be like Wu-Tang vs BONE....The Who vs the Doors would be like Nas vs Jay-Z....of course both has die hard fans, and of course there will be heated debates about which is better.

This is more like, The Rolling Stones vs Fallout Boy. At the very least, fans of Fallout Boy would KIM if asked "so, how do you feel about the Stones?".

And  at I don't check for other music. I been into rap since '84 and was listening to other genres most likely before you were born.

I don't care if they "give a fukk". Nobody is telling younger cats, "you should be sucking RUN DMC's dikk!"....but if you don't know, keep your mouth shut. Not you, I mean whoever. If you don't understand the impact, or the legacy, and prefer some new shyt, stay in your lane. The problem arises when people that have no fukking clue about anything prior to 2002 start weighing in on shyt that dropped 20 years ago.
