The real question should be why do we think somebody is soft if they are from the burbs( Years ago I was guilty of this myself. Whenever we would go out to the county to play ball, we automatically thought everybody from there were clowns/soft)

Cause of ignorance and the lack of respect and discipline in the household. Post-crack era, people think that being from a certain area = super thugged out or soft.
