Jordan wanted to go with Adidas. Nike was then what reebok is today and was so desperate for a hit that they gave Jordan whatever Faulk negotiated for.
No player after Jordan has been able to get that kind of deal except Steph Curry. You dont think Bron, Shaq, and Magic have that kind of acumen? How come they could get that deal? Its not about acumen its about luck and timing.
Jordans deal basically insured hed get to this level because Nike marketed him as the GOAT and he played like it. And because he was the lynch pin that help Nike grow to what it is now because of on the court play not business cunning.

He a billionaire because Nike came up with the GOAT athletic brand and he got a piece of that. I am happy he own some of his rights, but a lot of other people who have left the athletics have done better and been smarter.

I think people don't give him that same credit as Magic or Lebron because most of MJ's visible money was made through basketball related ventures and essentially being paid by Nike. Magic started getting the credit once he got involved in all the Starbucks and Magic Johnson theaters. Lebron is getting that Hollywood money, agency money, and hands in a lot more pots.

He set the template all these athletes follow today. He is the first athlete who saw the vision and turned his brand into a business and became a billionaire. There is no such thing as a dumb billionaire. However the media elevation of mj is always focused on his athletic feats. I think i know why
