I remember when I left Jamaica and came to the BX when I was four and my first memories of Hip Hop was mostly Ruff Ryders (X , The Lox , Eve , Drag On etc) ... I remember almost everyone on my block either bumping We Are The Streets or Ryde or Die vol 1 & 2 , especially my uncle that nicca used to bump those compilations faithfully taking me to school lol , but after like 01 their momentum vanished for some strange reason , till this day it's weird to me , their run was short but made a potent impact on the streets

Swizz production sounds dated & amateurish.
Nicca who cares .. I swear I only hear this narrative on the coli ... was Swizz some musically inclined nicca on some Babyface/R.kelly shyt of course not ... but he possessed that raw hood talent that obviously resonated with the streets since they were fukking with it hardbody ... I can guaranteed nobody beside some excessive hip hop purist nicca was spewing that bullshyt when Jigga My nikka , Ruff Ryders Anthem , All For The Love , Banned From TV , Money Cash Hoes etc was poppin

You asked the question as to why Ruff Ryders isn't more revered & I gave you a valid reason as to why. You don't seem to like that answer, but it's validity stands none the less.
Lots of classic bars over thin, trendy, for the moment production. Casio settings don't make timeless music.

Lack of depth. Pretty much period pieces for the 99 and 2000. Swiss is a good producer, but he didn't evolve and build into anything more. NY falling off as a whole. DMX falling off in his exploits...to name a few things.

Plus they got :old: for rap. By the time the mid 00s came, most people moved on to TI and Jeezy.

Plus the east coast thug shyt is :mjlol: to the kids.

All those songs still get smoke. They just didn't "bow out" gracefully ... It was a sudden collapse and DMX didn't hold the game long enough. RR is respected tho

Fact. It's crazy cause I was just reading how DMX is the 5th highest selling rap artist of all-time and his run was literally 2 and a half years. That's insane.

X fell off too quickly (mainly because of drugs) but he's still loved by his fans. He always had the underdog love even when he was the biggest rapper
The LOX are highly respected and considered legends for the most part
Eve had a solid run and a couple of big singles but she kinda is forgotten about musically
Drag was the a poor man's Memphis Bleek in that he was a nikka that was groomed by the main dude on the label but never was really good enough/didn't have the "it" factor to be the man and kinda is completely forgotten about

That's what I'm saying.... Cassidy, Cross, Infrared and those type dudes never took off at all. They weren't around long enough... If X held it down for longer they would've been mentioned more
